Adverts sorted by "Advert Age"...wtf?!

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it.

Can someone (from PH?) pretty please explain to me why the default ordering for ads on the PH classified section is "Advert Age"? I can honestly say that in 2 years of looking at PH and browsing the classifieds most days, I have *never* wanted the ads returned from a search ordered by their age. Has anyone else? I'm guessing that's a resounding "no!". That's a significant amount of my life wasted having to click on a different ordering method every single bldy time .... So why the hell is it the default ordering choice?! Even "Price (Hi-Lo)" makes more sense!

If you're looking for a specific motor you can click on the subsection and always see the most recent ads - ie the ones since you last looked. Can't see the problem.

I do. What I don't like is guessing which page the standard ads start on.

I do, personally. I'm looking for a car at the moment and I check PistonHeads daily for a specific make/model. Easiest just to scroll down, see all the new ones and i'm done.

If I am searching for a specific car the age thing is useful as people have said

But the standard car thing gets me everytime, I actually thought PH had a surprisingly low amount of 5 series then I remembered

Unfortunately at PH Towers they don't give a st which is why your negative feedback was immediately closed, locked and removed to the darkest corner of the forums where nobody ever goes!!

An interesting viewpoint, especially as it is open, read by staff and in the appropriate area of the website.

To answer your question Mario:
The default order has been age from the beginning, as when we didn't have much stock it made sense to be able to see new adverts on the first pages.

The stats still show that a significant majority still use the site like this, though this could be due to the user interface.

We are working on the way cars are searched at the moment, and as a criticiser feel free to email me and I will add you to the early beta group I am going to start building.

Thanks for getting back with an answer, makes a bit more sense now Just realised my initial post may seem quite aggressive/angry....wasn't meant that way (too much ), it's just the ordering thing has become one of my pet peeves as I tend to "window shop" on PH quite a lot As a thought, maybe allow the default ordering to be stored in a cookie so everyone can have what they want. I'm def happy to be part of the beta group (shouldn't whinge about something unless you're willing to help do something about it and all that!), will drop you a PM now so you have my email.
