Images embedded in posts apear as a compressed band ?

Hi mods/teccy types.
Hope you can help. Not for the first time I've noticed some images appear as a "bar" some 8mm wide and 10cms tall, a bit like a vertically compressed form of the original image.

appeared fine until this afternoon, now when viewed the first image appears as I've described above. Any ideas why ? or how the issue can be resolved ?
