I remember last year we tried to leave early from Hippodrome campsite. Thought we were being clever getting away at about 3.30 only to find the exit had closed at about 3pm. I think we then had to wait until 6pm (I don’t think it was 7) before the gates opened and we could be on our way.
Does anyone out there remember exactly what times the exit closed and then opened again?
We need to get to dieppe for the midnight ferry and am wondering whether to shoot off early and get some nice dinner in dieppe or stay until the end.

So they put signs up Sunday morning saying the exit gates would be closed from X to Y...then went around later change X to an earlier time...then the gates didn't actually re-open until well after that.
I forget the original X time but looking at my sat-in-queue-waiting-for-gates-to-reopen WhatsApp ranting from last year was meant to be "Closed 15:30 till 17:00" but from my position in the queue, part way around the track, took me till 18:55 to make it to the roundabout and join the D338.
If you need to make a timely escape North I'd be tempted to pack up Sunday morning, depart the circuit and find somewhere convienient for the tram on the North side of Le Mans to park up. You can then tram back in/watch the rest of the race/tram back out and be on the road in reasonable time without missing too much of the race.

Thanks Guys. I can handle getting on the Motorway at 7ish, that gets me to Dieppe at 10pm. Its if starts to drift to 8pm, thats the latest time I'd be comfortable with.
We were right at the front of the queue to leave H/Drome last year as we had just missed the shut off. I think we hit the motorway at about 7ish.
I like the idea of parking somewhere in the city, didn't think of that!

If you want an early exit the best thing is to move your car on the Sunday morning to one of the nearby grass verges.

We were also looking to make the midnight ferry from Dieppe last year and were in Houx Annex.
The previous year we had been in Epinettes and were planning to make the Euro tunnel by around 10.30 (I think) and that was the year the rule of no departures before an hour after the race was implemented without warning.
When we finally got out the only route we were allowed to go was up to the top of the Mulsanne and right on to the D323 towards Paris. There was a huge queue to come off and join the motorway presumably either to Paris or back to Le Mans and the A28 towards Rouen so I decided to drive straight on past the queue and we took a scenic route up through Nogent Le Rotrou, Dreux , Evreux and Rouen Ultimately getting up to Eurotunnel just after our crossing.
Used the same route last way last both to and from Le Mans. It’s not quicker to the circuit but is a pleasant drive and no tolls. On the way back I suspect it may not take that much longer than the motorway as once out the circuit you avoid queues and police!
This year we are in Beausejour so may need to rethink. One year I moved the car to the multi storey by Le Mans station and got the tram to it. It worked well as a plan

Great idea parking at Panorama on the Sunday. Have you done it before? Just wondering what the traffic will be like earlyish on Sunday morning. I'm thinking it wouldn't be tooooo bad, as most people will already be there. Plan is to pack camp up Sunday morning, head to parking to watch end of race, then hopefully on autoroute by 6pm
