Looking for a spot of advice, BijouSpud is a big racing WEC race fan.
We are off to Europe in the summer. Is Le-mans worth the detour?
What about the Ring for passenger hot laps?

If it isn't too far out of your route it is worth stopping at the museum at the circuit, and you can of course drive on the public road part of the track.

If you're driving Calais to south western France is it worth a detour? No.
But if you're passing that part of western France? Yes. In fact if it works with your plans I'd look at making it an over-night stop.

Driving a lap of the (public) circut's almost a legal requirement, as it stopping to get up close and personal with the rumble strips.
The museum's also worth a visit if you've not done it before as they normally have cars from the very earliest to most recent races on display.
And if you do use it as an overnight stop worth catching the tram into the centre of town and the old town slong the river at the top of the hill near the cathedral's really nice with plenty of good, local restaurants.

If you happen to visit between now and September and stay overnight then Head to the old town for La Nuit des Chimères for some very cool artistic projections all over the medieval buildings.

If you there and heading south from Le Mans the D304 run down to Hotel de France is good trip. Park in square and have a drink in the hotel bar

Great suggestion. We spent the Sunday evening watching the projections, really clever the way some of them follow the contours of the cathedral, and the history of the city that is shot onto the walls by the river I thought was outstanding. Nice to see how much pride they have in their history.

Be aware that the museum is closed for renovations and expansion at the moment and there is a temporary museum in it's place for the time being.
If you're involved with farming at all, give me a shout and I can sort you out with a visit to our tractor factory in the city too.
If you're involved with trucks, the Scania factory is in Angers further South West of Le Mans.
