only 2 porsches, and none on the reserve list. this will be the fewest porsche entries since 1951 debut. wow.

Oh wow, hadn’t picked up on that.

Incredibly light field of Porsche cars!

Sad times. It’s a shame but the 911s are very muted now though, you can barely hear them. Shame the 963 isn’t there too. Last year for Alpine too. Enjoy this era of sports car while we can.

We shouldn't be too concerned despite the tough position for manufacturers right now. Genesis joining this year and McLaren and Ford next so fingers crossed it remains strong for a while. However it will be tough seeing so few Porsches

The WEC has a problem. I believe all the cars and most of the teams are at the Lusail circuit in Qatar ready for the Prologue 22/23 and 1812km of Qatar on the 28 of March.

With the air transport hubs and the Gulf of Hormuz not available for safe travel due to the current conflict there is a distinct possibility of not only the Prologue and 1812km of Qatar being cancelled but also the 6 Hours of Imola on the 19th of April

Postponing the Qatar race to the end of the season seems most likely (for now)

If they fill up the tank, I volunteer to drive a Valkyrie out of harms way down the Qatari highway!

Possibility no Porsche's at Le Mans next year -

'2027 though could be different. By then the WEC expects to welcome two more two-car factory efforts (for Ford and Mclaren) and with that then the pressures do come to bear on numbers both for the full season WEC and at Le Mans where entries are very pressured. At that point, and in particular if the Porsche narrative on ‘fairness’ continues, a what by that point would be a 76 year continuous presence at Le Mans from the German marque could indeed be at very real risk of interruption.'

Can't see VAG wanting to let that happen and while they might not have the budget for a full WEC Hypercar+GT3 program I'm sure they have enough to make one of the non-WEC automatic qualifiers an offer they can't refuse to run a 911 in the 24Hr.

Or they could pack everything up and drive it to Jeddah, then ship it to Italy

That’s down to the WEC - they’re enforcing quieter exhausts than the US equivalent and also other European GT3 championships.

Listen to the Valkyrie at US races, what we’re getting is the watered down version frown

Yea, aurally the Valkyrie at Le Mans last year was...dissapointing - but then so were the Mustangs. Thankfully nobody seemed to have told GM as the 'Vettes were still playing a good tune.

Yeah, whilst the sound was nice it wasn’t the epic scream I was expecting.

I like the noise of the Cadillacs, particularly the rumble when the engine kicks in after a pit stop.

Suppose it’s tricky with mandated noise restrictions now. Plus I think it gets tighter over next couple of years.

There have been rumours going around now that this sound thing is not just simply because of Le Mans sound issues, if you read between the lines you can see little bits like ACO did not like the fact they were nicer and louder than Hypercars, I doubt this is the main reason, but I bet it is a factor, for me it is utterly pathetic, irt totally ruins the aural experience, and I would not be going if I could be arsed as a result. Doonan gets it, which is why he will not enforce it.

LMP2 cars are stupidly loud, yet nothing whatsoever is done to quieten them down, they have been that way for years on end, this is a weird sort of con of a decision in my eyes.

And for the record there was footage earlier of the 911 Cup car at the Ring and by God you can hardly hear it, apparently they are doing this bullst 100dB here aswell, for me this is the beginning of the end of going to watch car racing, if this starts happening.

And also btw, every year Le Mans hosts MotoGP where every class is super loud, considerably louder than any race car at Le Mans, and they don't appear bothered.

Whatever the reason, the reduction in noise is having a disproportionate effect on the spectacle.

I wouldn’t be the first middle-aged race fan to shout at clouds and announce I’m flouncing off, but the race is so much less visceral that it was even quite recently.

Dawn at Armage with the sound bouncing back off the trees used to be akin to a religious experience for me but it just don’t feel like that any more.
