E111 (I think) does ocver you for France. My Ex recommended getting one when visiting her in France (she is french).

The EHIC supersedes the E111 which in theory is no longer valid (although it did work for a member of our ski-ing party this year) and neither give the same cover as proper travel insurance. Ah will check what my card is, I got it last November so could it be the E111 and if so how long does it take to get the new one and can I claim ignorence and use it?

If it's a little plastic credit card shaped thing it's an EHIC, the E111's were not quite A4 sized bits of paper that were stamped by the post office> most likely if it was issued in November it's an EHIC.
