So, what is your best memory of LM 2006?
Discussion
Putting all the stuff about hooligans aside for a minute, what is your one resounding GOOD memory of the best endurance race in the world this year? Pics are good too!
For me, it has to be finding our way through to the Shanghai des 24 heures at about 11pm on the saturday night, walking straight through two open fences and up to the catch fencing, then along to the end of that having only a 4 foot armco barrier seperating me from the edge of the mulsanne straight with cars going past at 200+ mph - obviously very dangerous, and the lack of security was extremly questionable! but the experience was absolutley awesome!

Mine was Peat cycling round the roundabout after everyone had left the madness on friday night, convinced he could get the bike between the rocks and into the ditch, and failing, miserably, going wheel first into said rock!
Either that or the drive there and back, only had my first proper car since october, and it was my first drive there and back, my mk1 gti keeping up with the "big boys" of the group (Morgan +8 and a tuned tr6 engined gt6), so looking forward to next year!

Two memories:
(1) Wheel spinning off the podiumn on the official 'Parade de Pilots' and ripping the carpet.
(2) Being pulled by French plod for having no number plate. Whilst searching for cash a yellow TVR absolutely nailed it into the tunnel with me stood there with no cash, boiled engine, oil dripping everywhere......but with the biggest smile that the Plod had seen all day. Good work fella! Whoever you were.

If that was at Tetre Rouge it was probably me

This was my 3rd year and i loved every minute of it, the drive there and back, the race, the people. The one thing that really sticks with me was between 2-3am on saturday sitting in our gazeebo with with a few beers le mans radio on firworks going off and the the noise of the cars in the background i was in a little world of my own, forgot everything that was going on at home, at work.
Le mans has a very special atmosphere Day and night, i dont think it could be re created anyware. I love it bring on 2007

Was the first time for me and I've got so many memories that I can't just write one!
- Getting a police escort to the race circuit after they spotted us very lost in Le Mans city in the thunderstorms on Wednesday night
- Driving round the track and the gathering of cars at Arnage corner
- Having a private tour round the Aston pits and chatting to the mechanic who showed us round
- Watching the race cars hammer into Tetre Rouge at 12:30am, brakes glowing, exhausts spitting
- The NOISE!
- And just the whole atmosphere
I will be back!!

- Getting into France with an expired passport.
- The drive down, playing with Skylines, an Integrale and a 1.5 lepton dash with a Fezza.
- The Friday morning meet - people coming up to me to say they'd seen the car and asking wtf I'd done to it!
- Houx Annexe on Fri night - getting wet, going round the roundabout, more people asking about the car
- The race - the crowd, the cars, the NOISE!
- The atmosphere
- The sunrise over Dunlop bridge on Sunday morning
- Getting a bollicking from a pair of Gendarmes on Monday after doing some passenger rides. - Thank god they hadn't seen me themselves (they had received a phone call!) and didn't ask to see my passport!!!
- Getting let back into UK by a nice customs man who DID see my passport!

Best and worst all in a couple of hours.
Drove to the bar at the top of Mulsanne Straight on Friday night, driver too ratted to drive back to campsite so we left the car there. Went to pick it up at 10am Sat and it had gone, passports obviously inside it. We sent the owner off to see Le Gendarmerie with a huge wad of Euros and a driving licence. Long story short we got messed around from pillar to post but eventually was told the the car was in a police car pound and we needed to go into Le Mans to pay the fine. Did the only reasonable thing, went straight to said car pound with car keys jumped in and drove it out.
Also, seeing/meeting Dave Richards and the Audi drivers at a restaurant over the weekend.
Oh, and car spotting. Two of our group hadn't been before and they loved it.

Out of a whole weekend of memorable events, the two things that really stand out are:-
1. Nailing my TVR through the Rouen with the roof off....
2. Friday night... Seeing the cars for the driver parade and getting a lift back to the track with one of the race drivers Dad. Then joining a huge croud of Danish spectators in a marquee for cheep Stella, and cheesy dance music! a great bunch of people who know how to throw a party...
The wait for 2007 has started.

Not good for the nerves I would imagine!! Glad it hadn't been nicked though

That was fun Moose
The noise the car I was in made and the reaction we got when in convoy with the stickers and the Aston.
When we were following the brand new AMV8 in our group you'd see people go oh look it's that Aston (or whatever in french) then they'd hear our car and stare in what seemed to be disbelief at the noise it made (and I assume have a chuckle at the stickers).
Going up through the tunnel in the town on the friday night at a fair pace and seeing people cover their ears!
The standard griff in our group getting done (good effort david
) for doing a burnout in the town with the reason on the receipt being noise disturbance when it was our car making all the noise and still did once they had pulled over!
