Le Mans Classic - anyone going/been before?
Discussion
Done a search but can't find much on here about the forthcoming Classic. I'm going to see it this time and wondered how less crowded it is than the 24 Hours, are the grandstands open for general use? Is it easier to get around teh track to view from different places etc. Anyone been before? Rich...
Not been before so first year for me as well.
Am heading down on an early Friday morning tunnel crossing, camping just north of Le Mans.
Have heard/read its a very different event as you'd imagine to the main one.
Only 1 campsite near the circuit i think, not sure about the grandstands though,to get in the pits you have to be wearing clothes of the right "era" etc.
They do the original starts aswell.
Have heard its more "french" so more relaxed.
i think there are 12 races during the 24Hr period so should make for some good racing.
Looking forward to being at Arnage again!!!!!

I'm going, along with Rich UK.
Classic was a lot quiter 2 years ago - this time it looks like being a lot busier.
I think all the grandstands have sold, Maison Blanche is full and karting is the other available site.
There's a fair amount of info along with the booking form on the main le mans site

Going this year as a alternative to the 24hrs.
Hoping its like the 24hrs was a few years ago before
it became a stag weekend requisit!!.
They start over 300 cars in six different age ranges,
each getting 4 races I think.
I know a couple of people racing this year, a Triumph Spitfire
and a 1978 911, what a wierd race!!!.
Should be a good chilled out racing weekend.

Might see you there, we're in a red '86 Esprit turbo, with an italian sounding horn.

Hi,
I went 2 years ago and loved every minute of it !! The atmosphere is great, and the racing is much more interesting than watching a couple of Diesel Audis disappear from the start and just do lap after lap for 24 hours... Bit like a 24 hour F1 race except less fun (if thats possible...).
Two years ago it was pretty quiet but I think word has got out so I expect this year will be busier but still nothing like the scrum of the modern one...
But the best bit has to be the ability to get into the paddocks and getting up close to some awesome cars from the 60' - 80's...
Can't imagine going back to the modern one now...

I won't be going to this years event unfortunately but will cetainly be going next year as it sounds a bit like the Goodwood Revival for a whole 24hrs!
Pure
The classic only runs every 2 years, so you'll have to wait until 2008 Pure

Oh bugger!
Oh well at least it gives me time to save up for some more petrol!
