Hi folks
my wife is looking to replace her 64 reg Seat Ibiza 1.4 Toca 84bhp with another newer Seat as her current car has been faultless over almost 8 years. She wants either another Ibiza or poss a Leon or an Arona.
What engine out of the 1.0tsi , 1.2tsi , 1.4tsi and 1.5tsi is the less troublesome? What one is best to avoid?
It would be a manual gearbox not Auto.
I remember a while back that i read that one was particularly bad for cam-chain issues but i can't remember which one it was , any advice greatly received .
Thanks

They’re all pretty good. The 1.4 has had the most “Complaints” but they’re still very solid.

Would happily own any of them. If you go for the 1.0 make sure it’s the 115ps, the 95ps isn’t really enough.

Also, the Arona is st. Ibiza is nicer to drive by a significant margin, and in my opinion, bigger.

Had a Leon with the 1.4 ACT 150bhp engine, brilliant and took to 90k miles without issues.

I've had the same engined 2018 Leon since 2019. Only problem has been a leaking water pump that was replaced under warranty. It's a great engine with good low down torque for its size.

My wife has owned a 2019 1.0TSi (110) Fabia for just over 2 years with no problem so far. The 110/115 has 6-speed gearbox & rear discs - 95 has 5 & drums. Also good low down torque for size.

I currently have a Leon with the 1.4 ACT 150 bhp engine. I've had the car approaching 9 years. Engine wise its never caused a problem.

I had to replace the front wings on the car due to ""Fold Rust", at least that was the term used by the Seat dealer to get out of replacing the wings under their anti perforation warranty.

All being said, its been a great car. I cant convince the wife to get rid of it.

Cylinder de-activation. Results in slighter better fuel consumption and cheaper tax. £20 quid a year, or it might be £30 now. Cheap anyway.

My wife's old Ateca had the 1.4 TSI unit with cylinder deactivation, it was faultless in the time we had it and could nudge 45+mpg on a run which I thought was impressive in the Ateca.

That's cheap tax , my own Insignia 1.6 cdti is only £20.00 as well , yet i'm sure the wife's current 63 reg Ibiaza 1.4 Toca is around £190 .
So do all 1.4tsi cars have that engine after a certain year ?

I had the 1.4 TSi 150hp with 2-cylinder deactivation (ACT) in my Seat Ibiza FR and it didn't miss a beat in the 7 years I had the car. Excellent engine, smooth, punchy and decent economy. This engine is sometimes referred to as the 1.4 EcoTSi.

I think they are a variation, but not all are ACT. Some 1.4s only have 125 bhp, the ACT were generally 140 to 150bhp depending on application. The tax rate is good indicator of which. It was introduced around 2013 and replaced by the 1.5 tsi Evo engine around 2017 or 2018

No problem.

I cant speak for the other engines, but they seems to get decent enough reviews
