Got an F-Type V8 AWD and a Audi TTS Coupe. Bought the TTS to replace a diesel, thinking it would be more efficient than the Jag, but it isn’t – higher tax, higher insurance and lower MPG. I still take the Jag out when I can, and while it’s mega, the TTS has been great fun. It’s light, revvy, feels agile in gears without seeing silly speeds on the dash compared to the Jag.

Running two cars is getting expensive so what one car could replace both?

Will be a daily car, don't need 4 seats, not scared of maintenance and can't be any slower than what I have.

Need more details about your criteria.
New vs used.
GT vs sport car.
Mileage.
Usage.

60k buys lots of interesting cars (for example an Aston Martin DB11, 911, AMG GT, another Facelift Jag F Type, lots of BMW M cars).

It's been said one of the best "all-rounders" is the RS6

ETA My son replaced his V8 F Type with an M2 and loves it

Used ideally. My commute is only a few miles and I love the drama of the V8, loud, pops and crackles! There’s also some amazing rounds here, N Yorks and love early morning fast road driving.

I’ve done 4k in the Jag in year one and 5k in the Audi. Not precious about using them, depreciation or running costs. Just want to be able to park it safely and not worry about it being a magnet for trouble.

Think a heavy GT car isn’t the answer, personally. Want to avoid anything convertible, coupe preferred. No need for anything more in regards to space or seats :-)

Keep coming back to a 911…

R8 V10 or 991.1 turbo (non-S is close to your price point if a little over).

Clearly a petrolhead, and if you've never owned an Aston, my suggestion would be an Aston. If you've had an Aston previously, my suggestion would still be an Aston.

Reasoning? Because every time I see a Vantage, or a DB9, I want one.

Great suggestions so far, thanks. Natural progression would be a R8 but my budget gets me into the original shape which is quite dated now, plus I think the R8 (V8) would struggle to shake off a TTS.

One great suggestion is the Vantage, have been looking at the V12 since spotting one at a car meet. What a special car.

Shortlist so far; Vantage V12, 911 (Fastest and newest for my budget) and a Cayman GT4 tho think it’ll be horrible to daily

I think the answer is in the last sentence: a 911.

You are very close to a brand new M2 plenty on autotrader.

Lightly used M2, with some money for a lighter exhaust, remap and maybe some suspension work. Think Harry Metcalfe covered this option a few weeks ago.

A Cayman GTS 4.0 might fit the bill - be a nicer daily than a Cayman GT4

Currently have a V12VS. Had a 991.1 turbo S alongside it. Had a GT4 before the turbo S.

You re right about the GT4. Great fun, for a while. Not a daily driver though. The noise and the ride which seem brilliantly visceral to begin with end up grating. If you only ever have to travel on fast A and wide B roads, without speed cams, and without passengers, maybe it would work. I doubt it though. It s a track car adapted for the road - think Exige vs Elise.

If you want to know more about the other two have a look here: https://911uk.com/porsche/clash-of-the-titans-991-...

I ve sold the 991 now, but I still consider it to be the most complete car I ve ever driven; it lacks character but it s an amazingly rapid piece of engineering.

Otherwise on 911s, I d say 3.8 turbo > 3.8 NA > 3.0 turbo. But that s just me.

ETA I thought the V10 Plus from around 2013/2014 with the S tronic gearbox sat around the 60k mark. I almost bought a red one of those with the wingback seats two cars before the GT4. Too old?
