Rebodied cars - kit car insurance?
Discussion
Just wondering (sorry, its a stupid question but I'm not sure about it), but what defines a kit car?
For example, I'd like an MX5 for my first car next year, but as its a 'purist' car theres no way I can afford to insure one. I was quoted £4.7k TPFT for a R reg MX5 worth £4.5k!
So if, for example, I bought an MX5 for say £3k, put on a Retroforza body kit (seen in a previous thread), added one or two little visual improvements (i.e. hard top, chrome roll bars etc), would this 'rebody' let me get kit car insurance for it? And would it realistically be much cheaper seeing as its only the body work that has changed?

I have gone for quotes for my Banham BAT , a rebodied metro. It is regarded as a kit car and is marginally lees to insure than the metro (although not as mush as I was expecting). Best thing is to ring up one of the specialists, see insurance on totalkitcar.com for loads of contacts and ask them.
