vixex s4..pro and cons
Discussion
there is a fantastic looking vixen s4 for sale on e-bay ,its blue and one of only 24 made(true?) reg vtd728l...is it owned by anybody on here please?
I've owned an "s" series, wedge 350 and 2 chimaeras before and I'm seriously thinking about buying a vixen, are there any pit fall I should be looking for?
my other problem is that I live in Switzerland ...is the car hard to work on and are parts available by post as Im anticipating problems with local garages wanting to take on maintenance of an old TVR
has anybody any idea of the decibel output??? the swiss are very strict on noise levels !!
thanks

Just Bought a vixen myself.
My car had stood for 14 months and so is being recommissioned with new hydraulics etc.
Parts are easily available. brakes all TR6, Engine is ford crossflow, diff is Spitfire 1500/GT6.
Iffy areas to be careful with are the Alloy uprights at rear, Diff casing, front steering arms and the other bits peculiar to vixen, IE rear Screen etc. generally though all the mechanicals are easy to source and work on.
It is a pig to crawl under and when you buy, Chassis is everything, though that said David gerald sports cars will supply you with all of the items required, even down to a new chassis.
Neil.
have a look at TVR Pre1980 on yahoo groups.
The S4 vixen was the stop gap model between the M series cars and the old Vixen. In simple terms it is a Vixen body on a 1600M chassis. the production number you stated is correct.
They appear to sit a little differently than an earlier Vixen (higher)

hello Ian
I am also living in Switzerland and recently completely restored and imported from England an Tuscan V6 3l., 1969 which is the only one in Switzerland, is in perfect condition and for sale with swiss MOT. Are you interested ? For information a Tuscan with a new original exhaust system produce more than 103 DB and the limit in Switzerland is 82 DB, so it's a real challenge to get an MOT !
