What to look for when buying a Vixen?
Discussion
I don't know much about this age TVR and would be interested to know if anyone could give me a few pointers when viewing a possible purchase or sources of good information. Also the prices seem to vary a lot (I guess its very much condition based on a car this age). Any clues as to the value of an S2 assuming reasonable condition? Thanks.
I have had S2 and an S3. Steve Reid or David Gerald seem to be the best people to to speak to (if I am wrong then correct me). Look out for naff body work as in not origional. Ok with my rear screen beeing plastic, your choice. Engines. Check then out. I think they came with 1600 E units but a lot has changed. Also rear ends twin shocks and springs on S 2(?) Stainless a good step. Smell the car, mouldy smell it leaks, again your choice. Show me an early TVR that does not leak etc.

Also check the chassis. Check it all for corrosion, the outriggers under the sills need particular attention. Fuel tank is enclosed but check that as well. Electric fan mod is a must. If it has been converted to an alternator system all the better. If memory serves me the fuse box was very simple,4 fuses? A connector at the bonnet is very handy should you need the bonnet orf. Bonnet catches broke on mine once and I think they were off a Ford Anglia 100E. S2 should have slatted vents on the sides not grills. Also Adrian Venn at Exactlty TVR may be of help. See car club web site. Had a lot of fun in my S2/S3
