3000m? but was considering an S
Discussion
Well don't you know. All set to dig my hand in me pocket for a TVR s2/3, then saw a nice shiny black 3000m for sale at about half the price.
Now I know we are talking apples and pears but what's the deal with a 3000m. I've got a steep learning curve and limitedtime so potted comparisons wuld be very interesting.
My criteria is somthing fairly rare, under £6k reasonably reliable, pretty quick and sounds good!
Cheers

In 1990, I was in this situation, could spend £12-13K on an S or 6ish on an M/Taimar. I bought a Taimar, had 12 years of fun with it, but it cost a fair bit (mainly because it needed a chassis rebuild).
I think the decision really boils down to waht you want the car for. M's can be reliable (make sure you buy one that already has had a body off), but S is a convertible. If its mainly for summer motoring then you may prefer the S (the M will probably leak as well!). But then again S2/S3's are getting on for 15 years old now.
Both cars handle well and have similar performance, though the S does feel much more modern. The S will probably be easier to resell.
Alternatively you could buy a 3000S.
Whichever you choose, it will be a lot of fun.

PS Word of warning, a lot of M's smell of oil and petrol quite a bit, not big with the ladies!

Davidy,
Wise words mate. Being a bit of an introvert I prefer coupes, oily smells/oldy worldy driving experience ain't an issue, adds to the senses.
I'm no mechanic that's all, I don't mind tinkering but I can't do restos. Just seen a green one now on ebay. It looks great but could be a polished turd for all I know.
Cheers
