Is it just me, but if that is to remove old and fit a new complete chassis, it doesn't seem too bad a price.
When you consider that people are paying £1K for cosmetic work, £300-500 for an engine out and in it soon adds up.
At the end of the day the body will be still be sound £4K for another 20 years seems like good value to me.

Firstly, you should check whether the chassis itself has corroded through or whether its one or more of the outriggers. In my experience, certainly on M-series cars, the main chassis remains as good as the day ot was made, due mainly to all the oil that inevitably accumulates during the years and its only the odd section outrigger where the body bolts to that needs replacing. This can often be done without completely removing the body (you can argue amongst yourselves, we've done it).
I have three M-series chassis in my garage, all over 25 years old and all have the original factory paint on 80% of the chassis.
