I am experiencing a quite severe shake / wobble on my 1600M - I have just renewed the tyres which are all balanced OK and the tyre guy says the wheels are OK - it is very much like a severe wheel balance type of shake at speeds above 30mph. I am no mechanic however the car has just been MOT'D and I would have thought if something major was wrong it would have been picked up then. Worth noting the car had not moved for 9 years prior to restoration by a restoration company, the guy there says "all old cars shake a bit".

If the tyres are definately OK it could well be that the propshaft is out of balance.

have you considered having the tracking done, it could be that both front wheels are toe-ing in or out against each other causing the problem?

Had a similar problem once on a 3000M. Turned out that corrosion (white fungus-like stuff) had built up on the inside of the front wheel, where it sits against the hub. This prevented it from sitting square on the hub, and no amount of balancing could cure the vibration, although the wheel was fine on the balancing machine. Eventually the tyre developed an unusual wear pattern.
Worth checking, but if your wheels have been refurbished then it's unlikely.

Paul.

My Taimar was transformed by having all 4 wheels aligned by a specialist ( i used a triumph specialist as he was local). Since then the top peed has increased and is almost comfortable compared to before!! Wasn't cheap but 15 squids for tracking at kwik fit wasn't the cure.

A laser four wheel alignment from a good performance tyre place should be around £40-£60. Make sure though that you take all the settings for the car with you (because they won't be on their computer - unless its Michelddever tyres as I gave them all the settings) and you take with you a suitable spanner to get on all the rear adjustments, I ended up paying Micheldever £3 to grind down a spanner so that it fitted!!!

stigproducts - £200 is a horrendous price, I got my Taimar fully cornerweighted for less!

Any idea where I can get the settings for a Vixen - I'm also needing 4-wheel alignment.
