A question ... BARC Legends ... and small pink pigs?
Discussion
eric, it was a tribute to scottish racer Gerard McCosh who has always raced with napoleon the pink pig. as brands was gerard's last race all the field did the final with a pink pig on the back and after the chequer gerard led them round for 2 laps. Arguably the finest racer never to have won a race. Gerard plans to keep car 69 and napoleon and bring them out for rare knockhill races. top bloke who's retirement is a big loss to the scottish scene. no other driver has competed in more legends races
there has been a few over the years, think one did fall off due to faulty cable ties, another fell off in the area of a spectator bbq at post 6 and the marshals reacting as usual had it butchered with their swiss army knives and turned into bacon buttys in a matter of seconds. Think napoleon had a cute missus that was always flirting with a frog and had friglets, there is so many tales over the years
I have a photo somewhere of the demise of one of the Napoleons - the crowd noise when it fell off and was then run over was pretty funny, a huge "oooh nooo!", then the marshals grabbed it and made a play of doing CPR on it lol (at least, that's what it looked like from the other side of the hairpin; maybe that was the bacon butty incident though - poor Napoleon!). As I recall that one reappeared as a zombie at the next meeting, heavily stitched up and missing an eye!
Sad to hear of Gerard's retirement; he was a huge character in the paddock, and so very friendly - I only knew him by sight for the first couple of years I was going to Knockhill, then I met him a couple of times and after that he never failed to say hello or give me a wave, even when I'm sure he was really too busy to be bothered with a slight acquaintance! Very nice guy, and a very good driver too; I find it incredible to believe that he's never won a race, I think he won one or two non-championship races but he really deserved several wins in official events too.
