SEAT launches Leon Eurocup

That brilliant Leon Cup Racer to form a one-make series. Rubbing arches guaranteed

Just as we thought all was lost for SEAT, up it pops with a new one-make race series to keep us interested. Replacing the Leon Supercopa, the Leon Eurocup gets started next May.

Not to bleat on about the road car but...
Not to bleat on about the road car but...
The car being used is the Leon Cup Racer, the ruded up and hunkered down racer revealed at Worthersee earlier this year. A pack of these tearing round a circuit would surely make quite a sight.

The full 2014 calendar hasn't been confirmed but there will be six events across Europe during next season. SEAT is promising 'attractive prize money' for the Leon Eurocup, which should help offset some of the 77,000 euro Cup Racer purchase price. Best be fast then...

The corporate line from SEAT is that the Cup Racer 'is an excellent vehicle and will thrill our fans with some fascinating competition'. We await the championship with some interest then, and a road car with even greater eagerness.

Now, if they can match this with a road going version that looks as good I'd consider buying one - like they did with the last Leon and the BTCC body kit. Then again I didn't buy one of them......

Grr, the 3 door is a great looking car, in my opinion, why not base the race series around the 'racier' model?

I agree but it needs to look sportier, my FR model could do with more spoilers etc to make it look better.

The Renault Clio Eurocup is excellent yet the Megane Eurocup is dreadful. Not sure this will work, unless it costs under £150,000 or less.

The 5 door had more regitity in the body and doesnt flex as much.

Exactly, many of you do not put your money where your mouth is. Plus if they did release it looking like this, you would get the usual PH idiots cussing it with stuck on bits etc.

this looks so absolutely bloody fantastic, don't bother selling them to 6 racing teams, sell them as they are (road legal of course) to the public at large they wouldn't be able to keep up with demand.
The best looking seat I have ever seen, now where's my lottery ticket?

The wheelbase of the 5 door is 35 mm longer, which makes it more suited for track racing.

Judging by the "simply non-existant" ride quality in the basic Copa model - the racer should be pretty firm then smile

Seriously tho - I have no idea who signed-off the suspension in the cheapo model but they need shooting with st - it is THE most uncomfortable car I've been in this side of a Model T

Still my beating heart- another tintop spec formula which despite all the hype will doubtless be as dire to watch (and listen to ) as most of its predecessors.
