Yesterday, 7-2-2002 was the 12th anniversary of his passing. A true great and a gentleman. A British Ari Vatanen - win the event or destroy the car!

I watched him win the 1986 Manx in a 6R4.

Along with Vatanen, Pondy was one of my childhood heroes. Always good for a quote too; when talking about the dangers of the Corsican rally he said something like: "You can't afford to go off here - some of the drops are so big your clothes would be out of fashion before you hit the bottom".

Stayed at TP's house on the IOM for a week while servicing for a 6r4 team, typically Pondy used to go off for sunnier climbs when the rally came to the island, unless he was involved he didn't want the hassle from anyone !
The old red Rover we had for a chase car for the MN Tarmac championship, what a tank it was, great fun went anywhere !!

I was a big Pondie fan. Only got to see him compete twice - '86 RAC and 1990 Birmingham Super prix. Him driving Rover Vitesse's is what got me interested in rallying.

I wrote the main letter that was published in Autosport reflecting on his passing in the tribute issue. It was the closest I got to ever meeting him.

RIP Pondie
