"Weekend of a Champion" a film by Roman Polanski
Discussion
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this film, I can't seem to find it anywhere or know if it's still in circulation?
For those that don't this film it is a fly on the wall documentary following Jackie Stewart before, leading up to and racing at the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix (80 mins in length), it was shown on Channel 4 a few years ago and I wish I had taped it then. It has interviews, chats, behind the scenes eaves dropping on Ken & Jackie discussing things, Jackie talking to team mate Francois Cevert and of coruse the race.
Here a clip I do have (might need to turn the volume up) 4mb WMV - rightclick save as - www.mercia.biz/PHVid/qualifying.wmv
Anyone know where I can find the full film?

Ah yes, a very rare item it seems. I had a quick look at the usual places and nowhere has it listed. I have seen a couple of vhs copies on fleabay over the years.
Unlike you, I did tape it when it was shown a few years ago, and your posting has prompted me to fish it out and take another look. Great stuff

Amazingly after posting this on another forum in 1995, some 2 years later a brilliant chap who had the video recording from the Channel 4 coverage has sent me a DVD copy of it. Watched it last night, totally fantastic insight into the way it used to be and just listening to Jackie explain again how you caress the car, brake early, keep the car balanced to be quick was superb.
I have got a copy of that on VHS as well. It was part of a channel 4 series, shown before the first Gp of the season. You had a few journalists (Doug Nye, Alan deCadanet, Richard williams and Nigel Roebuck). They showed a few films, then talked about it.
From memory, this one had:
-a show about Colin Chapman
-the Jackie Stewart at Monaco programm
-9 days in summer
-a very rare programme showing the Mercedes sil ver arrows before the race, including Dick Seamen's 1938 Nurburgring win. And the Tripoli race. I've still got it, if anyones interested and can tell me how I can copy them from VHS.

As well as the Cevert movie, Stewart is also working with Roman Polanski on a 40th anniversary remastered version of their 'Weekend of a Champion' film that charted his success at the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix.
"Polanski is redoing it, in High Definition," said Stewart. "We will be doing the same things we did in the original film, but revisiting them 40 years later. So we've driven around the track together again, and we will be talking in the same suite at the Hotel de Paris. It is going to be interesting."
Sounds fantastic
