The plucky P4/5 Competizione team have finally finished their first VLN race on the Nordschleife, ahead of the team's attack on the legendary Nurburgring 24 hours in June, coming in 13th overall (out of 127 finishers, which we reckon ain't half bad).

Jim Glickenhaus's independent homage to Ferrari's classic endurance racers completes its first full race
The finish is encouraging news for the team, as the car's first race - video footage of which you can see embedded in this story - back in April ended with engine problems after just 8 laps.
Drivers Mika Salo, Nicola Larini, Luca Capellari and Fabrizio Giovanardi and the F430 GT2/430 Scuderia-based P4/5 Competizione (don't call it a Ferrari 'cos it isn't an official project) managed 38 laps of the Nordschleife during the six-hour race.
Next stop - the 24-hour race itself. Good luck chaps!

At an almighty guess they are LED brake lights and not regular bulbs, which have a "flicker" with some video equipment. Look for a video of a car with LED lights and you'll see what I mean (Bugatti veyron, Nissan GT-R etc etc etc)Appologies if I'm missing something here, but why on earth was it sent out with the coolant pissing out of it?! From the looks of it, things weren't terminal at that point, however, the 'blue haze of death' most definitely is! Was the video from another race? It didn't look like they continued?!
This was a great event!
It is such an excitng project to build a car (and in addition such a beautiful car) from scratch and race it on the most challenging race track in the world. To finish the race in such a good position is a great achievement considering that even many works teams do not manage it that well.
I am looking forward to the 24h race!
I wonder whether P 4/5 will also participate in the two 4h VLN races before? There is one on 28th of May and 11th of June.

The issue is that the driver lineup looks impressive but none of them has proper Ring experience. Like this it's extremely difficult to finish in the top 10. Set-up looks less than perfect too, looking at the lack of composure in sections where other cars run smoothly.

Because they are LED style the camera doesn't pick them up properly. Look constant to the eye.

Ah, no - the video is from the race in April. The one they actually finished was last weekend. The one on 2 April lasted 8 laps...PetrolAholic said:

Yeah, LED lights don't switch on and stay on like bulbs - they actually pulse on and off really, really fast (usually at 60hz, but some people can see that degree of flicker so some will be rectified to 120hz which the human eye can't see but a camera will still pick-up-on).When the flicker isn't in-sync with the camera's framerate (a video being just a sequence of stills) you'll get frames where they're on and frames where they're off - hence they seem to be blinking.
Same deal with 'lines' moving on TV screens and that effect where wheels look like they're going backwards - a sequence of stills tricks your eye into seeing something differently.
As for that Porsche at 8:15, I don't think he knows what hit him yet!!
