Hi Guys

I am going sprinting and hillclimbing (in a Tamora).

I know that my question is not Tuscan Challenge related but thought you guys may have the relevant experience/knowledge specifically related to TVR's.

The regs state that I need to mark the positive battery terminal with yellow tape. Given the location of the battery, is a scrutineer really gonna check that its got a bit of yellow tape on it?! If I have an incident that exposes the battery it wont matter what colour the bloody tape it, it wont be connected!!

Many thanks

Richard

Rules is rules however rediculous they sound, at some point you will get a jobsworth of a scrutineer checking it. And while you're at it are you sure its not the earth lead that needs yellow tape as per the Blue Book 5.14.5. Have the battery earth lead, if not readily distinguishable, identified by a yellow marking.

For the sake of 20p worth of electrical tape is it really worth the hassle not to?

Regards
Iain

some info on sprinting here

http://www.tvrmonster.com/sprints.html

follow the links at the bottom of the page to more info.

IIRC the neg has to be yellow for sprint cars too (as ours) so it can be easily identified and cut if required (unside down/ fuel spill etc)

There is a website too. the links will be there somewhere, or poswsibly on the links page!

Richard - have you checked with Steve Cox who runs the Speed championship. He probably knows best what sprinting scrutineers like to look into. he's alos got a Yahoo group for the speed cvhampionship that it might be worth you enrolling to as well.

Best of luck with it.

Richard,
As long as the ignition is marked on-off, they won't be concerned about the battery - its' concealed and they have a fixed amount of time to scrutineer your car - for a race car, it's 6 minutes.

Most difficult scruts will probably have a pop at you needing an additional throttle return spring - advise them that each throttle body is indiviually sprung and you should have no more problems.

I sprinted and climbed my Sag for 4/5 years without problem. Most scruts see a clean car, do the basic checks and then spend a few minutes chatting about the car. Enjoy, it's the thin end of the wedge!
