Fixing Polycarb Screens
Discussion
Countersunk bolts are the way ahead chaps (the ones with the hex socket) - I find they spread the load better than a normal bolt and are less likely to split the poly carb, especially when you are very close to the edge. They are also neater as you can mount them flush so won't foul wipers, polishing cloths etc - and more aerodynamic (like that'll make a difference
). I use floating captive nuts riveted to the back of the surround so one person can bolt the thing in and out - less of an issue on an open top, or if you have 12 foot long arms. I use a mixture of M5 and M6.
I'd like to have joined you at Brands but unfortunately I'm already committed this weekend....

Andy, dear chap, you should have been committed year ago! I like the idea of countersunk but was a little dubious about them spreading the load well, but it sounds like you've not had problems. I'm most concerned about the front screen as the others are relatively flat, guess I prep everything then wait for the next stinkingly hot day over the summer to fit it.

Just wait until Uncle Reidy asks you to put a different windscreen sticker over your dome heads
The Sag has a very curved screen, much more so than the Tuscan. I've not had a hole crack through to the edge since I did the first screen with countersunk holes in 2007.
And yes I probably should be committed - I even use black permanent marker on the ones in the black surround....

That's not a completely nuts thing to do. A mate of mine paints his with matt black model enamel paint as it stops the sun reflecting off the ones holding his dash in place and blinding him with glare. I thought he was being far too OCD when he got the pot of Humbrol out until he explained why
