Stirling moss retires from motorsport

Stirling moss has just announced his retirement after qualifying for the historic race at LM.


whilst being interviewed by hindy in the pit lane Stirling has just hung up his gloves and wont drive any more.

Hes decided he's too old and scared and doesnt want to be slow and get in the way , and only enjoys it when hes fast, and now cant go fast.


I just had a tear in my eye

It was remarkable listening to radio Lm streaming onto my phone.

He just calmly came out with it, Im too scared now to go fast, and its a pain when people get in the way so I'll not race anymore.

It took a while for Hindy to realise what he said, and then he and everyone at RLM was stunned...

Yep, I'm at home (leaving for Le Mans tomorrow) heard it live to on RLM, nearly spilt my beer! What a man, what a career, what a way to announce his decision, just pulled into the pits in his histoic Jaguar and decided that was it!.

All the RLM team seem devastated.

Something I've just dug out of the 80th birthday edition Autosport did. Talking about the last section of the 1955 Mille Miglia:

He has said the interview was done in the heat of the moment so needs thought before the door is finally closed.

His co-driver will do all the racing. I'd expect his co driver is probably the car owner who invited stirling to race it.
