Video: 850hp Dacia Duster

Another Pikes Peak contender shakes down...

Following on from Pikes Peak veteran Paul Dallenbach's 1307hp 'PVA-03' monster (which 'peaked' our interest in this year's running of the famous hill climb), we've spotted this video of another unlimited class contender.

This time the madman behind the wheel is reigning Andros Trophy ice racing champ Jean-Philippe Dayraut, and the car is the Dacia Duster 'No Limit'.

Now, Dacia might not be the first name you think of when it comes to extreme performance motorsport, but fortunately Dacia appears to have interpreted the 'No Limit' part of the car as 'no limit to how little the car resembles a road-going Dacia Duster'.

Thus, the spaceframe car features a fibreglass shell with huge rear wing, a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 taken from a Nissan GT-R but tuned to 850hp, and a bespoke Sadev six-speed sequential transmission. All of which weighs only 900kg. Could be interesting come June 26th...

I never thought I would see a Dacia that looked or sounded so incredible. Okay, so it's not a Dacia, just a madman's creation with Dacia written on it. But I still want to get in it and fly up some hillclimb tracks in it.

Despite the fact your uncle had a ~20year head start?

Simply wonderful!!!! biggrin

I love stuff like this. This is what top level motorsport should be about, not the watered down and regulation restriction dross you get in most other events.

Would love to see what something like this could do round a circuit like the Ring or even the TG test track just to get a comparison of pace. idea

Huh? It looks like a Duster... Certainly more like a duster than a Vitara looks like a vitara...

Can't see it getting to the top of the Peak without at least two pit stops for new back tyres.

lol. Iirc it wasn't very fast even by the standards back then. It was a fairly heavy 4x4 (switchable) with a small Renault engine.
