24 hour race lights on cars.
Discussion
So, I've been watching the 24h Nurburgring coverage and have noticed, along with cars at Le Mans that a lot of them are sporting various coloured LED lights as well as the standard headlights/fogs/spotlights.
Would be grateful if someone could shed some light upon why some of the cars have such lights?
Cheers!

Always wondered what the coloured leds on the cars flanks are for. Is it a way of showing which driver is in?
think it's for the leading cars in class ie 1st 2nd or 3rd
1 Light on means leading car
2 lights means second place
3 lights on?

Different colours depending on Class. Can't remember them but (EXAMPLE)Blue for LMPs Yellow for GTs etc
Some cars used to have lights attached so that their pit crews could pick them out during the hours of darkness. When we were at the Ring someone had entered an ex-taxi and thought it witty to leave the taxi sign on the roof. It was slightly bizarre to stand in the pits at 1am and see this "taxi" whistle past..
This was back in the 90's and the rather more organised system of the fastest cars having blue flashing lights is a more recent innovation.
