I was out of sight of all the cars and in no ones way, pit stops are long duration so one can wander around cars to their hearts content. Plus I was allowed to be there and I've worked 3 seasons within GT racing so...whats the harm in a bit of light hearted banter...There is always a risk element but when there is a million photographers and TV crew either side of me, trying to get a cool shot for home isn't that bad...so no need o ruin the fun! I would not compromise my safety or anyone else for that matter! It was a long race and this was the final chapter! I NEVER WENT NEAR THE WORKING AREA it was 3-4 shots in 24 hrs, shot time 2-3 seconds total for shot, I'm mature and know whats what if not I wouldn't be there in the first place!!! Presumably BMW don't want someone buggering up their factory supported effort to win either, yet the OP was allowed to stay. Therefore it is fairly easy to presume that he wasn't "dicking about" and never actually got in anyones way?Jealousy is an ugly thing, and you do not wear it well.

The idea for the photos were born as I walked away from the Ferrai 458, and I said ''I really want a shot of me in the pitlane with the BMW to show my mates what I was doing''...granted there was plenty static ones but to have a shot with the car during the race in a relaxed fashion just was too good a chance to miss!
I didn't expect ANY negitive reflection on my post! This thread was a tounge and cheek at the secret PH competition last week to view the BMW race team and maybe go into view the car maybe in the pit...Well I went one better. The pictures you see are car number 1 (the car which place 2nd overall) and if I were to mess up proceedings with that car it would be international news. I spotted an oppertunity and as the engineers were with the car not alot happens whilst the cars wait so thats when pictures were taken. The one behind was taken away from the driving line as the pit box was to the right of where I was standaing and out of the angle of curve of the driver. I wanted the shot for my bedroom and it turned out so good I couldn't believe my luck.
I was told after the race had started that I was going on the sunday as a guest of the team...so you get my excitement of having full works hospitality and being able to be apart of history and having a collection of photographs (which I was unable to do acctually working a in the makingt races) and have them with my dream car! I've been following this race and the BMW race team since before I could spell my own name LOL. Life is about chances and as you can see I lived them to the full.
The funny thing I never acctually knew I'd be at the race itself! As you can see I was following the race thread live (from page 4) watching streamed coverage away from the circuit like anyone else. Then whilst watching the coverage I got a call...and I had to contain my excitement saying I was only going to the race, but the reality was far more surreal! Sometimes wishes do come true...funny I watched the first part of race on a laptop in the living room and after a sleep of a few hours (too excited to really close eyes) I got ready and caught a little more than the final 1/4 of the race at the circuit from the Putlane.

That pit lane looks an absolute nightmare. Its bad enough having to elbow other teams out of the way to get your car in and worked on without a load of random punters milling about, often with their backs to potential danger.
A live pit lane is properly dangerous and I am gobsmacked that the OP and several hundred others appear to be free to wander about at will.
Not your fault OP, but in my opinion 1) you shouldn't be allowed in the pit lane unless you are pit crew and 2) pull your trousers up man, they're falling down....

To be fair to Ahonen, I only looked at his profile after I replied, so I think I was a bit harsh myself. Apologies. Just seemed a bit mean to piss on the OPs bonfire

Although, I will admit that the pitlane for the 'Ring 24 hours must be a bit of a fre for all, still, if you're not part of it, get out of the way.

Quite. See my second post above, I jumped to a conclusion without knowing Ahonen, which was wrong.Still glad the OP got the nice pics he wanted, and think if he was getting in the way someone would have kicked him into touch. The fact that all the real racers here (not just keyboard warriors like me) are saying the same points to that.
Guys we all know the risks involved with Motorspot and racing in general...I've been in many pitlanes as part of a team, pit crew, various roles, at many endurance races...So I know the risks better than most. just because I was weraing designer gear, look a bit like justin Beemer (sorry bieber) and it looks like I don't have a clue, the reality of the matter is the opposite.
There is only ONE other picture in my whole collection with me and a car at a race event...and I worked a lot of races. So this was the first MAJOR event I've been able to be at without working and without getting covered in grease, I really wanted to make the most of it loving BMW and being a MASSIVE fan of ///M Power and the M3 in general. I never thought it would create a pit lane debate about my presence in it. The point is that I was and the other point I was allowed and also there were only 3 to 4 shots acctually taken in a 6 hour period...and thepit lane is VERY long that when the alarm sounds off when a car enters lane, you are aware and also, just because your not looking in one direction, these cars are VERY loud and you'd be a fool not to hear it!
I may delete the photos from here, I never expected arash reception from some people. It was meant to be a tounge and cheek joke towards the competition last week, if not I would have kept these photos, like the rest on my facebook and there would be no debates who elbows the grid girl hardest as a car is coming to pit.
Thanks to those who seen the true nature and value why I took the pictures...guys there were fun pictures from a fun experience I had.

k the health and safety brigade and keep the pictures up, im sure the organisers have it all at hand.I had to drag a few people out of the way when our car was coming in.
People who are aware know where not to stand, some are gormless mugs and are completely oblivious to the danger.
Watching people cross the pit lane in front of race cars exiting the pits always amazes me too, look ffs!
But with regard to the pics, they don't look like you were in the way - the one with your back to the BMW could have gone a little differently though
