Yes they sure are the Lotus 78 has to be one of the sleakest looking cars especially in JPS colours the 1979 green Martini livery did not have the same impact.

The great things about these cars is that they all have an individual look that made them all so easily recognisable.

Today it is hard to tell in an instant if it is a Torro Rossa or a Red bull or an HRT or a Mclaren or a Mercedes or a Virgin.

Great stuff so far. I was a keen F1 fan even then but hardly ever got to see these races - on account of living in Ireland and not being able to pick up the BBC. Great to see them as they were broadcast.

Next up is 1973 - and watch Scheckter perform even more spectacularly - for all the wong reasons.

Sad to think that the top four finishers in the 1973 British GP are no longer with us for various reasons.

This makes me appreciate the modern TV coverage even more.

It's astounding how close the spectators were allowed to get to the track in those days and the lack of organisation from the marshals whenever there is an incident.

The whole scene was a lot less professional back then - which is why it was interesting.

You could see the problems catch fencing was causing in the 1975 race.

I was lucky enough to watch all of the seasons bbc coverage back then and if you think some of the camera coverage is a bit ropey for these British events you should have seen some of the far flung events I swear they must have done some of the races with only four cameras around the circuit. None the less it still seemed more exciting and a lot less predictable.
When you consider Lotus were considered completely dominant in 1978 an yet the two drivers won 8 out of 16 races scattered through the season, Vettel has nearly won that many this year so far.

I saw a couple of races each year - those that were picked up by RTE (which was very few).

From 1978 onwards matters improved as we got a new booster for our TV aerial and I was able to watch BBC. 1978 was also the first year that BBC started covering the season in full.

bugger. only just stumbled over the films being shown on espn. missed all of the races shown apart from the 1971 sesaon review that is now being shown.

what a pain in the ass that i missed them all!!!

No doubt they'll come around again. I wonder if can they lay their hands an any other pre FIA/FOCA era races from other circuits such as Monza or Monaco. I'd love to see the the 1970 and 1974 Monaco GPs again.

Silverstone certainly looked a lot more "rustic" back in 1973 - apart from the start-finish straight - which looked more like a scrap yard by the time "Yodi Scheckter" (to quote Raymond Baxter) was finished..

Best era of F1 for me. If I had a choice of time when to drive an F1 car, it would be then.

Great organic circuits and huge challenge for the drivers.
