Morning all. Well, went to do the tappets yesterday ready for Dony, and found one of the rocker arms has sheared the ball off that locates in the pushrod! Also got a snapped valvespring elsewhere, one valve about to drop and a few others with weak springs frown So, taking the top end apart tomorrow night (trying not to take the heads off), a nice drive to see Mr Eales for parts Tuesday after work and then button it all back together Wednesday and hope like hell it runs OK!

Dad always did like challenges - looks like I'm getting one now lol!

You should be able to do the springs with the heads on using the rope trick.

Are you using the Volvo rockers.

if so and JE has not got any. I've got a fully re-bushed set of Volvo adjustable rockers and a set of double springs, as still not had time to build my engine, you you could borrow if needed and then when JE has some send them to me, with my rockers.

let me know

Thanks for the luck guys!

Leigh, sure our valve caps are Ford Pinto and not sure what the rockers are tbh! Andy (the guy that built the engine origionally) i talking to JE for me today - if not theres a local lad who's got a couple spare that I can pinch I think.

Not taking the heads off, Andy's got a tool to remove in place! Tonight will be all valve springs off, make sure nothing else needed! Tomorrow is get the bits and Wed night is put it all back together! If I need to work on it Thurs night I'll leave home early Friday to be there lol...

I wish, it popped a core plug and dumped the coolant, leading to cooked oil and a resultant zero oil pressure moment...

not too bad though, full strip down and it needed a crank regrind, new bearings and rings. plus a new crank damper oh yes and it still needs a new crank sensor, as the spare that its got in it was also damaged by the crank damper..

Hopefully fire it tues, didnt get a chance today

I have a spare if Emerald don't have stock, after your problem I always carry a spare.

Well, been to see John Eales today to get the parts I need - he had them all in stock luckily! And some very delicious engines to lust over lol...

Hopefully get it all back together again tomorrow, and presuming it starts/runs OK we'll be loading up and heading down Thursday evening! smile

Well, car is running now! Found more probs while doing the work tho - ended up being 1x rocker arm damaged, 1x pushrod damaged, 3x valvesprings snapped (all on different pots!), 3x valve retainers knacked (again, all different pots, and different to the valve springs ones!!) and 1x sparkplug with no tip!! More than we thought, car sounds racy and ready to go! All polished, now sitting on 4 wheels and just need to load up tomorrow night!! smile
