I read somewhere in the last week or two that he now has movement in his fingers but has yet to recover movement in his wrist or elbow

I saw a couple of photos of him a few weeks ago and good god his arm looks terrible, like he's been in a shark attack never mind a car crash, didn't look nice.
I really hope he does get well enough to come back to F1 but if the looks of his arm are anything to go by, I'm not so sure it will be any time soon.

Fingers are the important bit really - if they work it means the nerves go all the way down so he has a chance of getting movement back.

Hope he's back for next season, he seems like a good guy.

I don't know what's worst about that, his injuries, or his company car...

That still does look rather bad. I wonder if his arms would be able to cope with the G forces in an F1 car - he's had a nasty F1 crash in his time already.....

£5 says he will never race in f1 again.

Alessandro Nannini and Zanardi were able to carve out great careers in touring cars, but F1 would be a different matter. Hope Kubica makes it, but there's got to be considerable doubt.

I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it back, arm injuries I know from personal experince look horrific, but don't always give the full picture of what's going on under the skin.

I was totally shocked how well the body can repair itself over time. I had almost zero feeling in my right hand 2 years ago, took perhaps 6 months for eveything to come back, my right arm was smashed to bits (although I didn't have a bit of armco stuck in it) took an age and 2 operations to fix but it's fine now, sort of, and I didn't have the level of support that Robert has.

To me his arm looks straight, the big scar is 'just' a wound from the injury as soon as the nerve damage is fixed, or repairs itself it'll be a case of physio and strength training.

You should never underestimate the will to succeed. He didn't get to F1 and win races without super human determination, and this will be reflected in his recovery. I expect to see him back in the 2013 season.

In all honesty those pictures showed him to be better then I expected. There is still a long way to go but hopefully he will be back smile

I'm sure that he will regain substantial use of his arm and hand, and am sure that he will be able to drive again, but seriously doubt that he will make a successful F1 come back. He only has to lose a couple of tenths of lap time to become uncompetitive at the top of F1, even a small amount of residual damage to his fine motor skills will be enough for him to lose his edge.

Is a steering wheel mandatory in F1? Could he use a DBW joystick for one hand and another joystick for gears/menu's and a foot clutch?
Alonso drove one handed for some of last season, as long as Kubica and manage the paddles I think he will be able to control the car well enough.

Really don't see him coming back to F1. Great shame, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'll be amazed if he makes a return.
