lap times donington
Discussion
i know tsl do the brscc timing, does anyone know who did the timing at donington round please.i was just interested to see how our drivers lap times compare to the cream of world touring car as i think hugh's qually time was within a second of rob huff's.I 'm guessing that the invited drivers were quicker but on a three and six pence budget not a multi million one.( and that was just their motor homes )
WTCC test was in the dry and their race 2 fastest times were also on a dry track. You can see from the speed traps and sector times that they are slower down the straights and quicker through the corners - which is what you'd expect. But it adds up to a the fastest TVR's being quicker than the Touring Cars in equal conditions.
not much heavier ( 1130-1190) I suspect much stiffer, everything optimised, dampers properly set up, actually seen a wind tunnel, narower but new and softer tyres... I doubt any of the wtcc cars have been sat on the slicks they raced on for 14 months.
The amount of seat time the drivers get too makes a huge difference..too
oh and maybe some talent :-p

so how do they make a tall metal box with skinny tyres go round corners faster than a low aero gt on fat slix?
Much stiffer chassis, superb dampers optimised for each circuit, tyres designed for 20 min sprint races that are then binned. And the drivers aren't too shabby.
Each WTCC car will have a couple of mechanics working on it full time completely stripping and rebuilding it after each meeting. Plus a full-time race engineer, and probably a data engineer too, working with each driver on optimising the set-up. All those 10ths of seconds add up and so do the bills.
