erm, I think we need one.

i have www.savebbcf1.com (not up to date) and savebbcf1 on twitter.

i'd like to create a 'hub' where people can get useful info and advice on steps they can take to make their displeasure known to F1, to the BBC and to the BBC trust.

the announcement today suits nobody but Sky, its a real lose-lose-lose situation.

anyway i could do with some help if anyone fancies it.

Personally I think complaining to the BBC may fall on deaf ears, they were presumably at least in agreement with this plan and have done so on the grounds of affordability.

Campaigning to the teams I think would be the best bet, if they try to enforce that it stays 100% free to view (side stepping the licence fee argument for a moment) than that deal couldn't go ahead and the BBC would have to keep it (assuming ITV, 5, or Dave don't show an interest) and Bernie would have to accept a few million less for the rights.

Ether way I would lend what support I can to any attempt to stop this happening, and action needs to be taken quickly, this in F1 terms is a massively quick decision, it won't be long before Sky starts a multi-million pound promotion and once that sort of money starts getting spent it gets harder and harder to reverse things.

This is gonna hurt, but, I intend to switch my tv on on Sunday, put it on any channel except the bbc1 coverage and go and work on my car in the garage, all I need is another 16 million people to do the same (but not in my garage).

Out of interest, how is it the BBC's fault they couldn't afford F1?

Shouldn't the complaints go to FOM and FOTA and all the major F1 sponsors?

I'm pretty sure this is too late and would be a waste of time. Even if millions of people protested to the BBC and they realised they had made a mistake, they have already signed the deal with Sky and there's no way Sky are going to turn round and say "Ok, no problem you can have it all back again."

the bbc have duty to show quality programmes that appeal to a wide range of people.

the bbc F1 programming has

1. improved audience figures for the sport dramatically (shows people want to watch it)
2. won awards (critical acclaim)
3. a rapidly growing audience (shows its popularity is increasing)

thye don't have a decent case for axing it, it was so succcessful and met so many of the aims for existence of the BBC that they needed to keep it.

I would have no gripe stumping up for Sky if regular TV were free, its a choice.

i think people are forgetting bernie has a massive hand in this - he has basically priced the coverage such that he's forced the BBC's hand, and he was happier to let that happen and keep his trust fund topped than offer a sensible deal and retain the fan base.

All I can say is that F1 will lose a viewer once it moves away from BBC. I currently don't have any sort of satellite style receiver and don't intend to start subscribing to such just so I can watch the racing every couple of weeks through the summer months, much as I will miss it.

There is currently very little on the TV that I will deliberatley make a point of sitting down and watching, but the F1 coverage is one of them. Top Gear used to be another, but I'm not that bothered with it now as it has all become so predictable, and the novelty of watching three grown men cocking about has rather worn off. It's rapidly getting to the point now where I shall seriously start considering doing away with watching live broadcasts, and just use the TV for watching DVDs. Would save me the cost of the license fee at any rate.

the thing that winds me up, i mean really f#cks me off about the whole thing is that bbc had the option of continued broadcasting of formula 1 & axing bb3 or keeping bbc3 & axing the f1.

I'm not sure if it was in political or real terms that they couldn't afford it (a mix of both probably) but to be honest i think the BBC have done well to keep something, the bods at BBC sport will be just as unhappy as all of you! i don't like it and i don't think i'll be getting sky yet, that said i do fear this is just the start and in a few years time it will be available only on sky which is a real shame.

BBC's F1 programes viewing figures suddenly became to big for it's own good, and they couldn't have that mucking the agenda up, now could we??

Besides we have that dedicated and factual car show "Top Gear" to placate us in our loss.....
