Aston Martin Racing: Straight-Six Out, V12 In
Old coupe gets an Indian summer as AMR-One gets reviewed
Aston Martin Racing will use the screaming, wailing, V12 wonder that is the Aston Martin DBR1-2 LMP1 racing car to compete the remaining three rounds of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC), while the new straight-six AMR-One programme 'continues to undergo review'
The swoopy coupe, which makes use of Aston's awesome 6.0-litre V12 (and which took a fourth place finish at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2009, making it the fastest of the petrol-engined cars)
The single-car entry will take the place of the straight-six open-cockpit AMR-One, which had such an unfortunate time of it at Le Mans.
Aston Martin isn't saying as much, but we do wonder whether the V12 coupe is being wheeled back out to appease fulfil sponsors' requirements.
Whatever the reason, we must say we're glad to see the old girl out again, because that V12 shriek is truly an aural delight - if a car could win a race simply by sounding fast, this Aston would never lose...

Because Aston do not sell Diesel cars. If it's not an Aston Chassis, and it's not an Aston engine. It gets hard to justify the Aston name.
it's a Lola chassis.........I presume the straight 6 turbo is destined for the road cars? (If they get it to work in the race car that is)

Does anyone really remember the winners of this race throughout the history of its running? Hmmm.
EVERYONE remember the sounds of a the 787B, the Aston V12's, Corvette's, etc.
Diesel can get to F**K.
I thought the R18 this year at Le Mans was amazing! Such a different noise to anything I'd ever heard before. I will remember that and the corvettes as stand out noises...EVERYONE remember the sounds of a the 787B, the Aston V12's, Corvette's, etc.

it's a Lola chassis.........The Lola chassis was used on the closed cockpit B09/60 car which is the one they are talking about in this article.
Is there anymore news as to what AMR are doing with the 2.0 straight six turbo engine?
Just before Le Mans some people were saying it was a bad idea and that a four cylinder engine would have been a more reliable bet. What were the main issues in the failure of the six? Was it vibration through the crank or a combination of issues?

A duff pulley on the alternator was blamed immediately the cars failed at Le Mans. Now to me you'd think that was an easy fix if that was the route cause... So there may be other gremlins lurking.Just before Le Mans some people were saying it was a bad idea and that a four cylinder engine would have been a more reliable bet. But isn't auto racing the place where development and experimentation takes place? Who cares if AM doesn't build diesels today? Don't they want to WIN??
