Improving TV coverage of F1 - your thoughts please

It is a done deal. The BBC clearly want to get shot of F1 so that they can spend more money on mindless, vaguely camp , Saturday evening talent shows. It is what it is. No doubt John Barrowman is negotiating a pay rise as I write this.
So F1 on Sky is going to be a reality. What can Sky do to improve the viewing experience?

I will start:
The BBC coverage is truly excellent. They could do a lot worse than pick up many aspects of it and simply drop it into their schedules, even hire some of the BBC staff.
To add to the experience, I would like to see a mid week Nerds programme full of interviews with key players and a technical insight into the teams.
Come raceday - I would love to see some more of the days race card also shown live on the TV. Porsche Supercup, classics etc... all live as a part of the build up. If I have to pay for motorsports then give me a whole days worth !!
It would be interesting to hear other ideas.

I am just sick to the back teeth of all sport going over to SKY.I pay a license fee yet dont get any choice.Other than F1 I maybe watch BBC news.I dont like John Baarymore/man I dont like Eastbenders or cookery programmes I hate casulaty and the "in it to win it" lottery programme so as far as I am concerned close the BBC down its not fit for purpose.

To me, I think the winning formula would be something along the lines of:
1. NO f
kING ADVERTS!
2. Keeping pre-race build up, race coverage, quali coverage pretty much the same
3. Have more indepth technical information, maybe in 10/15 minute snippets that could be SKY+d/watched on demand (not PPV)
4. Have a similar forum to the current one with a more technical follow-up after
5. Have a program on one evening in between each race to discuss any of the technical changes/rule changes/etc that have happened/are due to happen along with any stewards enquiries (post-race) and how that might affect the up and coming race(s)
6. If possible, show live the other races on the race weekend. If this doesn't fit with the schedule of the build-up as listed above, film them and show them after the race
7. Buy the rights to a lot of the old races for each season and show them either in date order or some other order
8. At some point, demo a race in 3D
Basically, create SKY F1 and dedicate it to the F1 fan both casual and geeky (I don't like the term 'nerdy'!!). I think this would give the anoraks time to brush up on their anorak-ness whenever they please (SKY+) and the casual observer to still really enjoy the experience they currently do.
I also think that the move to SKY (if the above is met) wouldn't be entirely bad because, as I mentioned in another thread, it will make the sport more sociable (at least for me!). What I mean by that is the majority of the time I watch the F1, I do so on my own. A few of my mates also do the same thing. Whilst we could get together and watch the race currently (which we do very occasionally), we don't tend to do so for other reasons. Some of them have SKY, so I do see us meeting up more for the next few seasons to catch the F1 which I think will be a better experience also.
Maybe people will start to watch the F1 down the pub? I've seen many football games in pubs that were much more boring than todays race for example

I hope they will show replays and then freeze frame them and draw all over them in a scrawling manner reminiscent of a three year old.
We could do with done slightly less articulate comments and a few more tired cliches too.
Perhaps a little more chauvinism could be a good thing, Gridgirl of the week or something.

I want more technical stuff. Since the casual fans will leave only the totally hardcore fans will remain. Doubt this will happen though. It will be "the red car has passed the silver car", etc. I'm not paying for it eitherway
The irony is that the hardcore fans are technically savvy enough to figure out how to get free feeds from the internet. I was watching the race on Sky Germany for free this afternoon, just for sts and giggles. Stick that up your tailpipe Murdoch you sport spoiling idiot.

OK, there is stuff that can be done using satellite. It was tried years back, using loads of channels and an extra payment so that you could get live timing, pick your own onboard shots, the whole works. It was a great idea but I think about 9 people in the whole country decided they wanted to pay for it. But what we have now is a presenting team that has huge (and it really is huge) respect throughout the whole paddock, from Bernard (although not in a commercial sense) on down. They all know that DC, MB and EJ have walked many miles in their shoes, and so they've got a bit more time for them than they have for, for example, Tania from Sky Germany. And while watching half the race from Kobayashi's car would be awesome, I'd much rather have the insight into the sport that the BBC gives us so very well. The Pirelli test as an example.

More candid interviews with the drivers? No more than currently done by the BBC (Alonso's card tricks for example). More in-depth technical examinations? It's all been done by BBC and ITV.

Cameras are on the cars already, I was talking about getting viewer controlled access to them. t from a great height on anything anybody else does IMO.I am not convinced that viewer control over what driver to ride with adds anything to motor racing viewing. Indeed, if you are watching as part of a group, who decides who to ride with? It's a false "improvement" in the viewing - one that wasn't that popular before and probably never will be.
