Basically the teams have been assured that the non-live races on the BBC will be covered "in full". Bernie has also said that that is an option, but has also stated that he has suggested that they only show highlights. The BBC press release also mentions that "extended highlights" will be broadcast (whatever they mean by extended).
So, what do you want the BBC to show? And don't say "All races live on the BBC" because let's be honest - that's not going to happen.

Pretty much the only thing that will salvage my continued interest in F1 is full delayed coverage on free to air.
I'm really not interested in seeing half a season (or half a race), and sure as hell won't be paying for Sky.
If Bernie says it's an option, then the Beeb would be mad not to take it. The only reason not to would be to pander to Sky, as people would rather wait a few hours than buy Sky.

Even though we do not want to see death or serious injury in F1, how would the BBC cope with a Senna/Imola situation in their delayed feed?
I know on the day Senna died, they actually did not show their normal San Marino GP highlights that evening - they showed a short tribute to Senna instead. If you hadn't seen the events live, you didn't see it that evening.
And even though it was awful to witness, there is certainly a feeling of having "been there" when such a momentous event occurs on live TV.
If Sky are covering races live, these major incidents (and their impact) will be mnuch diluted and possibly have far less ramifications.
The availablity of widespread free to air TV coverage did more to bring about safety in F1 than anything else - nothwithstanding the campaigns of Jackie Stewart and Louis Stanley.

i don't care if they show the race 1, 3, 5 hours later than sky, it makes no difference to me. i'd like to see them cater for those who like to use live timing and driver tracker during the races tho.
also, whilst i don't care at all about who wins the WDC, i know some do. the BBC have the final race but what if the WDC is decided ahead of the final race - there's a 50/50 chance they might miss it with live coverage...

Highlights are crap because you'll get to see the start and the pit stops.
Problem is the pit stops will mean nothing - you don't understand what other drivers are doing (i.e. pushing to make time), you don't know the gaps to the car in front/behind, you don't get to see the out lap and how they feed back in to the race.
The BBC do not understand that the formula one season is a story, each race is an episode.
You don't skip half the chapters in a book because you can't be bothered do you ? Thats what the BBC have willingly done to us for next year..
At the same time highlights are skipping a few pages, reading a page, then skipping a few more. All of a sudden you get to the end of the book and haven't really got an idea what happened during the narrative, you just know the outcome...
