Sponsors we have loved
Discussion
Actually, the first named sponsored F1 team was the Yeoman Credit Cooper team - later rebranded UDT Laystall. Because of the advertising restrictions of that rear (1961/62) the sponsors could not show any logos or advertising on the cars themselves. They had to carry national colours. But the team was officially sponsored and was accepted as such in all the events they took part in.
The Gold Leaf Team Lotus cars were the first F1 team to CARRY sponsor's colours.

Although technically still a sponsor, their name no longer appears, but surely this is the Daddy of them all.
