Button to drive F1 car in Manchester

Jenson Button will drive a McLaren Formula 1 car through the streets of Manchester later this month as part of a three-day festival in the British city.

The 2009 world champion's run will take place at 11am on Monday, August 29 from Albert square, which will also be the setting for an F1 fan zone run by team sponsor Vodafone, and through the Deansgate area.

"Driving an F1 car through Manchester is going to be a unique experience for me," Button said.

"There's a chance for the public to win some great prizes so I hope Manchester is going to be out in force and are looking forward to the bank holiday as much as I am."

Button's run will form part of three days of festivities in Manchester, which will include a go-kart track, F1 simulator and working pit garage.





Years ago they ran a load of A1GP cars along Deansgate and the noise was incredible! Well worth going to see this.

I went to one of these in London a few years ago, the number of people that turned up was incredible.
This should be great, I hope Jenson gives it plenty.

Regents Street? I was there too and the sound was superb. The safety car sounded pretty good as well from what I remember.

Anyone go to the A1GP demo in Deansgate 5 or so years ago? Really bizarre experience seeing and hearing single seaters in the city centre but good fun. Sadly I'll be at the Gold Cup instead.

A fabulous indoor circuit, with 22 new karts. Raced in the Grand Prix last week, didn't make the podium, but a great time had by all............
