Looks pretty smart.. I've pretty much built up a new one and I'd say I've probably spent more than that (gulp) so its not a a bad deal - although I'd want to know what kind of vintage the internals are.. I know there were various changes to the block, is it small or large J crank etc?

I would be suprised if the owner wasn't Al Melling , given that it's located in Portugal.
With that provenance, it should be a good engine.

Hi

This engine has now been relisted.

See: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I can confirm it is direct from Al Mellings stock and is the large bearing version.

There seems to be a load more stuff on e-bay, by all accounts its all first generation AJP parts which a worth more money as theme coffee tables - beware campers.

How do you tell from pictures whether they are first generation?

The comments re AJP 8 are incorrect.

The AJP8 has only ever had one race version. This was the original version designed for use in sports car and single seater cars. The only subsequent changes were for road use and homologation compliance. See the updated item description on Ebay for more information:

The comments regarding "early version" are more likely to have been derived from the issues experienced with the TVR Speed Six engines.
