Long-distance enduarance rallying

Evening all. My friend and I have been musing over the possibility of entering some kind of trans-European road rally in the not too distant future. There seems to be a popular trend for banger rallies of this sort at the moment but we would quite like to use my mate's 10 year old focus which will be subjected to various track day modifications once it's life as a daily hack is over. I'd like to hear from anyone on here who has experience of these kinds of events. There are of course a vast array of organisations that cater for everything from wrecks to exotic classics, one of the more famous ones being the annual Mongolia rally which is run by a charity. Any pointers or advice would be most welcome!

I wouldn't call a 10 year old Focus a banger, my 306 is 12 years old and I don't see why it won't last a few thousand miles more (if I get around to looking after it).
