DTM or V8 Supercars?

Which do you think would be quicker round a single lap? The DTM cars are less weight but only around the 400-450bhp region, the V8 Supercars are around the 700bhp but heavier. Obviously aero is a big consideration and on looks I would say the DTM car may have the advantage, but I'm not sure what would be quickest?

Anyone have any stats/figures to back up possible lap times or just an opinion for the 2? I'm struggling to find info that could be used as a direct comparison.

No idea, and while it's not a true guide - having played TOCA3 and driven both at Spa, the DTM cars were quicker.......

Interesting question. Have driven a V8 Supercar and they are absolutely great.

V8's are dinosaurs DTM cars arn't.

in anything that involves corners, DTM cars will murder V8's

Circuit dependant.


But say Silverstone GP Circuit I think the DTM would be slightly quicker than the V8SC due to the better aero package.... but put them on a street circuit like Adelaide (AUS) with the big curbs etc they pound over the DTM would either break it's fragile aero and suspension or be considerably slower trying to avoid such damage.

I did a bit of researching yesterday for weight and power figures, a DTM car is around 450-500bhp and 1050kgs under the new regs. A V8 supercar is up near 700bhp but weighs 1300 and a bit kgs.

I have no idea where the weight comes from in the V8SC. They are just a space frame made to look like a car.

At Albert Park, the GP cars do a mid/high 1:20 and the V8Supercars don't even break 2 mins. So you can make a comparison from there with any circuits DTM and F1 have shared.

Not quite that light or powerful.

600 - 630bhp

1370ish kgs, minimum is 1355.

Bathurst 1000 in 19 days.

Where did you get that idea? The V8 dinosaurs are built from full car bodies.

There was a crash at the end of conrod at last year or the year befores Bathurst. Some poor chap did a few flips and crap went flying everywhere. I had never taken notice of a V8SC before but what shocked me was the roll cage went through the entire car making it look space frame and also that it had a live axle unlike the production car which had IRS. The original body looked like it was there for show as it was cut away so much it looked like it was there to hold the doors on.

I'm sure you are correct but it just looked like the suspension was mounted to the roll cage rather than the body. I could only find some info on the COTF which support my dubious claims so it is merely based on what I saw at the time. Driver was ok though

I must admit I've lost interest over the last few years so I'm not up to date on the regs, but I'm certain that the current cars start as full bodies and have the cage built in. Yes there are many changes including the live rear axle, and I *think* they might use light panels?

AFAIK the COTF is the plan to replace the current cars with what you are describing

DTM for sure would be quicker. Especially somewhere like Adelaide. But The Mountain would kill one. Too brittle I reckon.

At a AMG event at Bathurst a few years ago Bernd Schneider(could have been another merc driver) said his car would do a 1.59 so 7 seconds faster.

There is no real comparison that makes sense, the V8's aren't too shabby for a tin top, the DTM's are just pure racecar.

If Mclaren built a DTM would it be faster than a German built DTM ? there's a question based on the German/Toyota fi experience
