I can't believe how close he's sailing to the wind on this - he's about the only person attached to the F1 coverage that the BBC actually employ; everyone else seems to be a contractor.

I thought it interesting that he says he'll be seeing the truck driver again in 8 month time for the Spanish GP... so has he signed for Sky or are the BBC still sending him out in the truck. Sounds like he knows what he's doing next year anyway!

It's all decided in the background I should think. They just want to leave it as long as possible in the hope that the anger dies down.

Don't the BBC insist on using their own people for programming? In that case they'll need Jake there to do the lead-in to the highlights etc anyway.

My understanding was that the problem with F1 is the cost of the rights, not the production of the programme, so they'll still have staff at all the races I guess.

EJ, DC, MB and I think probably Ted and Lee as well are all freelancers, I should think a lot of the technical crew are too.

Yes but freelancers contracted to the BBC. Isnt this why the races that ITV originally showed, but repeated by the BBC have had new commentary placed on them.

But now our European adventure is at an end for another year and so it was with a heavy heart on Sunday evening that we waved off Pete D'Lemos and the trusty silver truck he looks after; we'll see him next in Spain in eight months.
