Even better, force current F1 drivers to have such a race every GP weekend.

They should do something similar instead of the Race of Champions. Get 20 top racing drivers, stick them in identical rental-spec Corsas and let them race around on the door handles

My aged MG Montego Turbo has not fallen to pieces yet, nor my MG Maestro Turbo unlike many other cars I could mention a fraction of its age of twentysix. Here's the old girl, still lifting its skirts and showing a quick pair of wheels to many modern so called superior stuff. Never tire of doing that... Yes, guilty M'Lud, some folks never grow up... Good eh...

Yes, 26 and still going strong, never missing a beat, and nothing fallen off ... yet. Always a first time... for any car!

I also remember a year or two later seeing a similar 'race' involving about twenty identical MG Montego Turbos in the same silver leaf colour like mine. A range of celebs invited to drive them and a sprinking a pro-drivers including some with f1 Drives. Now I and no doubt you would think it would be a walkover for the pro-drivers. Not a bit, and the excuses they made for their less than expected showing like 'turbo lag' showed they had no idea how to drive them unlike some of the celebs with no track experience who drove rings round them!

When I say gorn forever I mean it. I attended meetings to see Clark, Hill etc after their F1 drives, jumping into touring cars like the Lotus Cortinas and putting on an even better show than the main events.

Yes, great stuff .. sadly all gorn now with the ever changing face of Motor Sport, not always for the better.

My dad had a one as a company car way back when they were brand new. Bits were falling off of it within a fortnight - I kid you not. Perhaps indicative of an early car, but my personal benchmark for poorly assembled tat ever since. That was the top of the range (Vanden Plas I think) rather than the MG though.

Ah! Days gone by. I remember seeing a race in Mk 1 Escorts with F1 team manager in them. Chapman drove tremendously well as did Williams. If memory serves, Jack Brabham was in the race but I might be making that up.

Now theres an idea, how about a modern version of this only with the team principals in cars that the team manufacture:
