Sounds good to me as Honda are also going to be full NGTC cars next year so there should be no parity issues between the top two teams at least.

He also seems to reckon he can do very well at Brands which im really looking forward too, should be some good racing.


Please dont anyone turn this into another Plato slagging thread.

Does it really matter? Better drivers have come and gone, he wouldn't be missed.

I dont get all this none-sense about equilastion in the first place!

If you want absolute parity, join a one make.

They (RML BTCC) knew they had the option for turbo Vs NA and they went NA thinking thinking it would mean parity...shock horror a turbo car is quicker than NA car.

Besides, Chevys run turbo unit in WTCC dont they?

Great driver though, but lets not carried away- Thomo, Turkington, Gio and Muller are needed back to spice things up a little.

Get your head down son, get the job done if possible at Brands, and move on to next year with some dignity- which ironically the article points to, apart from the "not all" none-sense.

Bear in mind the turbo unit in the WTCC car is a 1.6l unit not a 2l so not as easy as maybe all that.

I odds are on Mr Plato going to the WTCC team next year, just my 2c worth

I disagree, he is a key part of the BTCC being competitive and exciting (At the moment), thats not to say he couldnt be replaced though.



HF: The WTCC cars are 1.6L so the NGTC engine is completely different, ive also heard they couldnt afford to change to the NGTC engine for this seasion.

I do agree though, we need more competetive and agressive drivers back. Maybe the change to new cars will bring up some new talant, we have already seen a couple of new guys that look like they could be future champions.

Its not just the engine, the NGTC chassis is different too. Which is why we are getting a bigger variety of cars this year (and next year) instead of the WTCC's cast offs. I think the move to cheaper to build/run cars will bring in a few more drivers who have the talent but not the budget for WTCC or the old S2000 cars. Better drivers leads to better racing and more viewers therefore potentially more sponsorship money and finally more money will bring in better drivers, starting the whole cycle again.

It might take a few years, but NGTC can only be a good thing imo.

His complaining about 'parity' (or rather, his idea of what that means) is tiresome and makes him look like a bad loser. As does deliberately impeding your fellow drivers' qualifying.

I for one wouldn't miss him, or the air time he's given by his mates at ITV4. I want to see and hear the views of drivers like Wrathall, coming up in the world of BTCC, not hear JPs latest pontification on how he'd like the series to be run.

BTCC would get on just fine without him, and the coverage would be more complete to boot.

Agree on the comment on Wrathall.

If the decision to lose Plato from the BTCC came would need to get rid of the other big ego, his best mate after the qually mix up.
The two of them bring a level of comedy to the racing that appeals more to the Eastenders watching soap opera fans than armchair racing watchers.

I don't 'hate' anyone, least of all some bloke I don't know.

I'm just tired of hearing from him, and think the whole thing would be more interesting if he'd get his head down and get on with it instead of using any opportunity to complain. This weekend just brought things to a head for me - he's needling the other drivers to make a point, a point we all have heard a million times now. Neal over-reacted just as he was supposed to do, more fool him.

But it's boring, we've heard your views, we get it. We understand you're upset but you had the choice at the start of the season. You chose n/a and at some circuits that's worked for you, at others it hasn't. Now, do us all a favour and either drop out for the rest of the season or else shut up about it and get your head down like all the other n/a drivers appear to be able to do.

Of course, ITV don't help matters by always going 'straight to Jason' for yet more opinion......

To be honest there aren't many good drivers in the BTCC at the minute and there are only one or two who are even on the same page as half the the DTM grid.

Plato is good, but he really isn't all that and I would not miss him on the grid. I've never had a problem with him personally and the few times we have met (none of which he is likely to remember ) he has come across as a nice enough chap. That sad I do not like the way he has almost always gone crying to teacher when he isn't out front and rarely seems to look closer to home for the answers.

RML chose to stick with the Chevy and N/A. It was a good call but possibly, just, not the right car to field. Look at what happened to the McLarens the other weekend - all the speed to win but a car that was fast on the straights made it near impossible for them to pass and hit home their advantage and chase for the win.

All of the above said I would like to see him on the BTCC grid next year but if not his absence will not be mourned by me.
