Maybe so but Mika was the man - 2 WDC's and a master to watch.

Sure showed Schumi a few things about winning races

I used to want to chew off my own foot when Kimi was being interviewed. Robbie the Robot had a more acoustically pleasing voice. Daleks as well, for that matter.

I spent three seasons working with Mika back in the late 1990's and he is a much more likeable chap away from the cameras and media. He did struggle with the media pressure and some of the corporate speak from McLaren, but my God can he drive!!! A guy who enjoys life, enjoyed his time in F1 and showed MS how to drive in race after race! The Finns loved his interviews when he spoke in his own language....only they knew exactly what he was saying and it was sometimes somewhat rude.

The one I remember was when he came third to 1 - M Schumacher & 2 - Ralf Schumacher, when asked for his feelings on his 3rd place race, his totally dead-pan reply (which cracked me up ) was " I'm glad there is only 2 of them " A classic ,& delivered in that inimitable Finnish style.

I'd forgotten that one ! laughhehe he certainly was not a man to use two words when one would suffice.
Bloody good driver though, really bloody good .
See the interview with him on the F1 60th prog on i-player regarding his biggest accident. Dead-pan, straight to the point. A Finn. . . . .

My favourite Mika moment had to be when the BBC asked him about cutting costs in F1. Keep in mind that the reporter had been harping on for a bit about the financial crisis before finally asking Mika the question....

Love the way he takes his time to come up with the right answer

Mika is the king of deadpan. I used to love watching his interviews, he had me in stitches half the time. I enjoyed his banter with James May as well, when teaching him how to drive a rally car.

Mika was never the bore that stupid people thought him to be - he was just incredibly dry and loved giving silly answers to silly questions. You'd always hear the guffawing of the British press members in the press conference when he gave his answers.

One of my favourites, which I haven't managed to find on YouPube, was Barcelona '98 (where he was on pole by miles from Coulthard, who was miles ahead of the rest). There was a scrum of reporters and cameramen crowding him as he strolled down pit lane and Louise Goodman said: "Mika, you made that look very easy". Mika gave her a slightly puzzled look and said: "It was". End of interview.

The Britsh GP in '01, where he passed MS into Maggotts and won by about half a lap, was made even better by the press conference. Bob Constanduros asked Mika why he pushed so hard even with a massive lead (he set his fastest lap on the penultimate lap). Mika explained that he wanted to win by as far as possible so that he could get back to the pits and have a nice cup of tea before the other podium finishers turned up. Cue the press gallery snorting with laughter and Bob scrambling for another question.

You don't hear those kind of answers anymore - more's the pity.
