Well in no giant shock of shockdom, Lotus Renault want to become Lotus (since Renault isn't actually team owning any more) and Team Lotus want to become Caterham F1.

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/10/team-lotus-a...

No great shocker!

Basically the story goes that after all the money spent on the court cases, the Malaysian government called proton and Tony F into a meeting and said sort this st out - it's not good for our country.

So Tony F have Proton/Lotus all rights to them !

I'm sure some deal went on - but that's the long and short of it.

Really hoping that Caterham F1 will finally decide to buy my caterhamracing.com domain wink

sounds like less money for lawyers and less time spent in the courts.

yes and more than likely Fernandes has his eye on the bigger picture so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his mitts on Lotus in the end anyway.

Gotta say its a big boost for the Caterham brand though, if it gets approved.

True, but on a side note, I wonder how many people in the likes of India, Singapore etc etc have heard of Caterham? Brand exposure none the less.

I do not really care about the name..
The team was more important...it ceased to exist long ago.

The name will always be for pure marketing and sentimental reasons.
A modern team with the original lotus name does not make it the original lotus Team.

Interesting that HRT should choose to block it - they are looking for a new engine supplier next year aren't they....Kolles is a politician of extraordinary talents.

But essentially, the deal is done and we will have Team Lotus and Caterham F1 on the grid next year.

It seems that Bernie wants a resolution to the issue, not sure what he wants that resolution to be though - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95142

Strange that HRT are blocking the move, surely one of their options would be to sell their grid slot and I can't imagine anyone else wanting a team with that name.
