So as time ticks on its looking less likely that Barrichello is going to get another season at Williams. Similarly as time ticks on its looking less likely that Kubica will be sufficiently recovered for the start of the next F1 season. Clearly Reubens wants to stay in F1, in a competitive car, and Reneault need someone experienced to help them develop the car. Seems like a good match up to me.

They didn't retain Heidfeld, who has a reputation as a development driver and for being quick, so I don't think they'd want Barrichello.

As likeable as he is, I think Barrichello has been in F1 long enough, and is really just a blocker for newer talent.

yes I think he's had his day. There are hungry new drivers out there who are as quick and no doubt a lot cheaper too.

In fairness Heidfield is NOT half the driver Barrichello was or even still is.
Heidfield 172 starts 13 podiums 0 wins. Barrichello 320 starts 68 podiums 11 wins. I think the stats in this case does show the huge difference between them. I think Barrichello is probably a little past his best but would be the perfect stand in for Kubica and could definitely help move Renault-Lotus forward. When he was at Ferrari several times he found the better set up for the car which Schumacher would then copy.
So Barrichello at Renault-Lotus a Good Idea INMHO

Personally I don't rate Heidfeld and I don't think he really helped Renault develop the car while he was there. While I agree its probably time for Barrichello to hang up his racing boots, his experience would clearly be valuable to Renault. A Barrichello/Senna pairing would be pretty awesome!

why even make this nonsense up?

Its time for Barrichello to go and do something else or just retire after all this time in the sport and now at best he is getting lower midfield offers - give someone else a go, same applies to Mr Trulli.

Agree, cant believe either is still around, neither deserve to remain in F1
Neither would be missed.

Perhaps lotus (caterham) would be more suitable? Truli doesn't appear to be getting on very well there..

I really like him, but I'd not miss him. There's now atleast 6 or 7 drivers who have been in F1 for about 10 years and button, Alonso and Schumi are the only ones with any future in my opinion.

Word is that although Truli has a contract if the cash was available to buy him out they would.

Barri - stay
Trulli, Luizzi, Glock, Maldonado, Massa, Sutil, Petrov - bye bye

Di Resta - You can stay if you can find a way not to be so bloody boring.

There, that should unblock some seats.

Barrichello to Renault would provide a good (one year) deal for Renault. Hugely experienced. Drop Petrov, keep Senna. Tap a Brazilian company for a dream team level of Brazilian coverage.

With a caveat that Kubica gets 6 races to get back into the groove through the season, 3 races from each driver?

Thats not going to happen, you can't be swapping drivers every two minutes.
If Kubica ever does drive an F1 car again I can't see it being next year, unless its a test/practice. I think his recovery was massively talked up once they actually got him on an even keel, its pretty clear it will be much longer and harder than they said initially.
As harsh as it sounds I don't think they want to take a chance on him, they need some reassurance he is still going to be able to drive.

Its always said that Petrov brings plenty of cash through sponsors, but I'm not sure if that is actually true ?
Just for laughs I've even seen it said that they are talking to Kimi! I don't think its true though.

I take your points, but stranger things have happened - like Trulli not driving as he couldn't make the most of the steering? I don't think teams *should* be changing drivers, but I can see them choosing to do it, esp at the tail end of a season.

I completely (although sadly) agree re: Kubica, personally don't think he will be in a car until late next season. I'd be delighted if I'm wrong.

I could see Barichello bringing some money for a Brazilian dream team and displacing Petrov with cash; Brazil is full of BRIC confidence and wanting to shout from the rooftops...

Trulli has a contract for 2012
Glock recently re-signed, 2 year contract I think ?
Maldonado brings enough cash to keep Williams alive, he's not going anywhere
Massa has a contract for 2012
Sutil I can't see without a seat, I reckon Williams.
Petrov has a contract IIRC.

I've only just got around to watching quali and having just seen the brief interview he did after not running in Q1... I think the guy has had his day. It is indeed time to move over because he can only now bring less to a team than a younger driver can in terms of output. But after seeing that interview, I really feel for him.

He deserves an exit from the sport with a bit more dignity and performance than he is going to get from Williams. If Frank, Patrick and that greedy sleaze bag Parr allow themselves any feeling for their drivers they'll be just a little bit ashamed of themselves and the sham of an F1 car they have consistently given Barrichello. You get the impression he has worked just as hard for them as he has done at any point in his career and has got nothing back in return.

Real shame and to answer the question posed in the thread, no. I understand the thinking, but no IMHO.

I have a feeling the Williams will be a much improved car next season and it will be mainly down the Barrichello's input, and as they have done in the past they'll repay a drivers hard work making sure the door doesn't hit him in the arse on the way out.

Not sure a move to Renault/Lotus would be beneficial for Rubens but I hope he stays in the sport. He comes across as a genuinely good guy and definitely still has the talent (just not the car).

To all the people saying he should leave to free up seats, ridiculous. His experience is invaluable to developing not only the car but the development of young drivers.

Get him at a team with a good young driver (hopefully not a rent-a-driver) with a car capable of breaking into the top 8 now and again (ala Force India) and I think you'd have a really exciting team. Maybe this could be Williams next year if they get the car right, I'd love to see him paired with Bruno Senna.

I'd be happy to see him in the Lotus to be honest, he'd be a genuine asset to the team and he'd do more for development in pre season testing than Trulli has done in 2 years. And a cushy team ambassador job is there for when he retires.
