BBC F1 Coverage- Thankyou

Before it finishes in Brazil (and sorry Aunty, half a season + highlights isn't coverage worth talking about IMVHO, fans want Live and nothing will substitute for that) I thought perhaps it'd be nice to say Thankyou?

Thanks for the quality and quantity of the coverage since (have justed watched the Red button Forum from yesterday- superb interviews with Seb, Lewis and Jenson with a level of openness and insight you rarely see from top sports personalities on any other sport/channel)
Thanks for Martin, David, Jake, Lee, Ted, the FiveLive commentators and I suppose even Eddie :-) A great team who seem genuinely interested in F1 (again not the case in some sports/channels) and at least put across a good % of the atmosphere for those of us unable to go to the races.

I can't afford/justify Sky and avoid highlights like the plague (no "spirit" in them) would rather watch recording/iplayer of the live coverage, its just has so much more nerves/energy to it, which is alot down the the way its covered I think- so Thank you BBC, it's been grand

Yeah, but they were also doing a damned fine job of producing very high quality, entertaining, BAFTA winning coverage with tax payers money.

But I suspect none of that means a jot to you as you are a member of the new breed of arbitrary contrarians who have infested PH who bring nothing to the table and like nothing better than to derail and criticise threads, am I right?

Strongly agree. This team has huge knowledge and e0perience and often spot an emerging problem before it happens. I am very sad to see them go. Not sure I will ever watch an entire F1 season ever again. It was a great run when it lasted.

The BBC's coverage was no better than it should have been considering the resources given to it and only significantly better than ITV in terms of no ad breaks.

Do you have universal praise for the BBC or do you think F1 coverage was unusual?

For the record, I thought the BBC coverage was great. Just no more than I would expect given the spend. There is strong argument that it could have been just as good on a lower budget, given some obvious extravagances in the spend, but I'm sure you know that.

It certainly didn't warrant an outpouring of public praise, which will just encourage the BBC to continue with their well publicised fiscal overindulgence, witness the plans for next year's Olympics.

Then I would say you don't have a particularly considered(or REALISTic) view of the coverage in comparison to that of ITV.(height switch - posh way of me saying he doesnt know his arse from his elbow)

Universal praise? No. There is a fair amount of content which the BBC produce which I greatly enjoy, there is far more though that I do not choose to watch. This is not unexpected though given the BBC's remit as a public service broadcaster.

So, you can sit there and bleat on about the naïveté of this thread, but you will rightly be in the minority as it is widely considered and well recognised that the BBC have done a sterling job of providing F1 coverage, regardless of the budget allocated to it, when compared to historical coverage.

BBC Coverage of F1 has been great.

What's wrong with praising something when you think it deserves it?

Actually I do think that the BBC's F1 coverage has been brilliant. Although he was much maligned at the start, getting Eddie Jordan in turned out to be a move of sublime genius. I doubt Sky will have the world champion making penis jokes for them.

Cobblers, Eddie makes for fantastic viewing and has done from the first race. He's been there, done that, won the other and got out with his marbles and his wallet just about intact. He has earnt the right therefore to say and do whatever up and down that pitlane. Earnt the right. Not just waltzed up with a camera crew being a nobody, but he has spent his professional career earning the right to do that on his own dosh.

Ppl who have done none of that forget that.
