Race Licence Renewal

I doubt I'll be out next year, so was wondering if I should re-new, would I loose my Nat-A if I skip a year.

I'll still cam and watch some of the races and help out if needed, but the plan is to sell my house, and build a house with a triple garage, so I don't need the workshop, plus hopefully will have a zero or at least a smaller mortgage, this will free up at least 10K PA. so will enable me to continue racing as currently been using my saving that are running out.

Thats odd i have just got a bungalow (getting very old now cant do stairs anymore)so i can build a big workshop on the land in the back garden.

Extract from 2011 Blue Book ref licence retention (below) would suggest you wouldn't lose that status as you are an existing Race Nat A licence holder - providing you can prove that fact e.g. provide the old licence if needbe. As the regs currently stand you should be able to subsequently renew with no loss of status providing this stays "as is" in 2012.
Just renewed mine btw

"14.1.3. A competitor who can provide proof of having
ever held a National or National ‘A’ Race licence may
renew it for either a 2011 National ‘A’ Race,
International Historic Race or National ‘B’ Race licence."

Leigh, once you've got it you've got it. Plus you have 3years of grace to reapply for your licence before you (technically) have to redo your ARDS.

Blue book says:
"14.1.1. Note: A competitor who is unable to retain their
Race licence as mentioned below may be required to
pass a course at an Association of Racing Drivers’
School. Exemptions to this requirement are as detailed
in 8.2 of this section. Competitors qualified to retain a
National ‘A’ or higher licence, who have not renewed
their licence for five years or more will be required to
pass the ARDS written examination."

Relevent exemption is:
"8.2.3. *Anyone who can provide proof of having ever
held, or entitled to hold, a Race licence of higher status
than Restricted or National ‘B’. Competitors who have
not renewed their licence for five years or more will be
required to pass the ARDS written examination."

If you wait 5 years or more you'll need to do the WRITTEN exam only.
