There was a massive amount of Rally content? In fact there were two WRC cars in the entrance lobby, Carlos Sainz was there presenting an award, Sebastian Loeb won International Rally Driver of the Year.

He does seems irritatingly likeable.

What with that and Button's speeches, I think they both highlighted how bad that plank Steve Rider is. I haven't seen anyone flap that badly when someone deviates from "the script" in a long time. Doesn't bode well for live broadcasts and interviews next year, does it?

Ryder is a great advert for recruiting someone because they are a "name", rather than having any inate ability. He came over as very wooden & completely unable to ad-lib or deviate from his pre-rehearsed speech *eckin useless for live TV.

Seb , as always, gave us an excuse to forget the war. Seems a very relaxed genuine guy. Good on Button too for his BBC promo ! Sounds like Ted hasn't signed a contract anywhere yet.

Seb's speech was very good as was Jenson's. Nice to hear some proper bantering rather than the usual P.R stuff.

I suspect Ryder, like Walker before him. Has his best TV time behind him.

Humprey makes him look amateurish though. I suspect that's because JH is closer in age to the drivers than Ryder.

Almost takes me back to the era of the sports personality of the year awards, (197?) with Graham Hill & Jackie Stewart taking the p1ss out of one another. They should have interviewed them together, just to ask (for example) why Seb was 1st & JB 2nd in the championship, after a few glasses of vino apiece that could have been a laugh. I loathe this psuedo -interview style exemplified by Ryder & the sundry characterless pr1cks from another era who have been involved in presenting F1, & it is obvious that the drivers (at least some of them ) just want to have a chat & a laugh. That is something that was refined to an art this year during the Forum by the Beeb team,which Sky will find impossible to reproduce.

Ryder has all those years in broadcasting and yet stands there with his arms folded, even after Jenson has joked about it.
Not a great performance, perhaps Seb could offer him some training.

We certainly were, as I wasn't lucky enough to be there

Therefore, my judgement on him is based on the videos, where I think likening him to a length of timber is pretty accurate (not to mention genorous!). To me, he came across as having a list of questions that he absolutely "had" to ask, irrespective of the responses from the interviewee.

I am happy to be proved wrong during next years coverage, though.

The banter was great - there was good stuff between him, Brundle and Jake H. Thought he anchored it very well - certainly had the room laughing. Vettel was incredible - to do that humour with all the nuances of colloquial English was seriously impressive. The Kimi impression was genius.
