Best place to sit At Silverstaone for 2012 GP

Hi Guys,

Looking to buy 2 tickets as a present for someone for next July's GP at Silverstone.

Could someone please recommend 2 tickets? It doesn't matter what price (from standard to platinum anyway). Looking for something that an F1 fan going to a Grand Prix for the first time would most enjoy.

I see that Abbey and Internation Pits straight have already sold out, so I guess whatever is the next best...

The two times i've been i've sat at becketts for the race. It's great to watch the change of direction of the cars. You also get a view of the new arena section. If i was to book now though i would without a doubt go for farm curve. You get to see the start and it's a great view for a large amount of the first sector.

If you buy a platinum ticket bear in mind you can sit any other platinum grand stand or below on Friday and Saturday. Same with gold to gold, silver to silver etc.... So it will be your seat on race day only.

On Friday anyone can sit anywhere (except the main pit grandstand).

What you should do first thing Friday morning is walk to the inside of Beckets (not in a grandstand). Get right to the front at the apex.

This is the only way to welcome you to F1.

Only other thing I would suggest is that you make sure you are opposite a TV screen - will be very helpful over the course of a weekend!

The problem you face is no one can pedict what the weather will bring to the race day.
I prefer Becketts because as well as the change of directions at speed you also now get to see the Village complex.
That said, the best race I watched was at the Luffield complex when the race was soaking wet and the cars were scrambling for grip to get onto the old pit straight.
Also if they put the DRS zone on the Wellington straight you'll get dices into and around the Luffield section.

Club grandstand - get tickets (IIRC) between 180-220 and you're staring straight down the grid and can see them up to Farm curve. You'll also have a view of the pits and the podium, see them from the end of hangar straight and round Stowe (albeit in the distance and limited view), down Vale and round Club.

I've enjoyed a few races here and a couple at Luffield complex.

I think I must be the only fan not to rate Becketts as high as these 2 grandstands.

OT but make sure you camp for the weekend - atmosphere in bucket loads, no traffic woes. Helps make the weekend IMO

we took a punt on some cheap uncovered seats in stowe c which were ace. you are far away from the majority of the crowds who cluster around woodcote and copse. you get a great view from hangar straight through towards vale and there is a big screen on the inside of stowe too. they are by far the best value seats at silverstone.

No seats are cheap at Silverstone haha!

But yes this is a good shout, pay £200 for a seat and £400 for a seat doesnt automatically mean the view is twice as good!

The Luffield stands are good, I used to like the old Luffield C grandstand but from high up the cars dont appear to be moving that quickly as you lose the sense of speed you would get from other parts of the circuit.

hell on toast! £190?!??! I am absolutely certain we did not pay £190 per seat and that was only in 2010! from memory, it was much closer to £100...

we chose stowe on the basis that it looked like the best value with regards to seeing stuff happen (overtaking etc) and cost of ticket.

Grandstand seats even crap ones havent been £100 in a LONG time.

Its £90 alone to have the pleasure of your deckchair.

I went last year and just had a general admission ticket doing the same this year. £217 three day general admittance ticket and camping for 2 nights

And take a small radio with earphones (tune to Silverston radio 87.7FM) as you will not hear the commentry with the cars blasting past.

Great advice - this is the best place to watch downforce cars in the country. Even better on the inside of the fence - it's one of Silverstone's hidden gems. Not quite F1 but amazing place to watch ILMC earlier this year.



Back on topic, Becketts is great but don't expect too much overtaking. Club would be better for that and spectating at the entry for one of the Free Practice sessions would be well worthwhile to get a feeling for the amazing speed a Grand Prix car can carry through a fast corner, as well as the way they will blend braking, downshifts and turning-in so seamlessly. Just about anywhere at Silverstone is a good place to watch a modern high-downforce single-seater at work.

Hi Guys,

I also need to buy some tickets. Not sure what to go for as buying them as a present - looking for something a first time F1 fan would love to see - some speed and some corners...

Could someone please suggest something? There's quite a lot sold out. don't mind paying for platinum tickets at the most - looking for Sunday tickets only.

Been before on Renault days and they had an F1 car there.For change of direction copse is a great view.
Sat on the National straight too which is good for watching race starts.

I'm looking at tickets too and not sure which to go for.I have 3 to buy.

Eta: I'm looking at Stowe silver tickets. Uncovered grandstand but has a TV.(plus reserved seat for sunday)

All grandstands have reserved seats for Sunday. Which is very useful as you dont have to set off crazy early to get there!

Abbey is the place to sit on the new layout, but is expensive. Club are the better seats if your budget is smaller.

People rave about Luffield, and having sat there in the early 2000s I never saw what the fuss was about, yes you see the cars for a long period of time but you get no sense of speed, and there is no pitlane entry to watch either now!
